Park Inn Dusseldorf

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- What is your Club Carlson status?
Gold

- Where did you stay?
Park Inn - Dusseldorf

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
indifferent. Lame.

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked Standard with Dream Deals, got the same

- Did you receive elite benefits?
Nothing, no recognition whatsoever even though seemed like superior rooms were unoccupied. Did not bother to ask even if I did give my gold card at reception. A bottle of water though.

- How are the rooms?
Seem refurbished not too long ago. Corridors and open spaces are dated and dullish, but rooms are better, though very cheap style. Why not, this is Park inn. Rooms look exactly as on photos on website.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good: Receptionist was efficient with very good english and pleasant attendance.
Bad: nothing, maybe lack or elite recognition.

- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Dream Deals an OK value, i would not pay 100€ for this hotel. Dull place and no recognition - will look into other properties next time

Gold

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson, Austin Tx

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel?
Here now, generally happy

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard double queen, received king suite. Was asked at checkin if I needed the two beds or would like the upgrade instead. Have lovely view of Town Lake. Also lounge access.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Did not need early check in or late checkout.
In-Room Welcome Gift - Small bag of chocolates handed to me at checkin. Greeted as a gold member at check in but to be fair, I handed her my CC gold member card with my CC Visa to check in.

How are the rooms?
Decent size, but old. Laminated card in the room acknowledging that guests had told them the rooms were tired and that they were getting a complete overhaul in early 2015. Also told that by front desk at checkin. Public spaces already done, very nice.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Parking close and easy. Excellent rate negotiated for conference.
Lounge had variety of snacks when I checked it at 7 pm
Front desk very friendly and helpful
Bad:
Rooms do need the refresh, but they are not bad, just a little tired. Will be curious to see them when they are done.
Lounge was cleared of most snacks when I went back at 11 pm for a Coke. Fruit was still available but beverages, nuts and granola bars had been cleared.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Here for a conference. Good value at conference rates. Terrific location. Hotel in middle of major upgrade. Will be very nice when finished.

Park Inn Kaunas

What is your Club Carlson status?

Gold

Where did you stay?

Park Inn Kaunas, Lithuania

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel?

Generally happy

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?

Booked standard award room. Received business friendly room on the 8th floor.

Did you receive elite benefits?

Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes, but first they did not want to upgrade me.
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Did not need early check in or late checkout.
In-Room Welcome Gift - No gift in room.

How are the rooms?

Decent size, but quite old. Comfortable beds.

What was good and what was bad?
Good:
Parking close to hotel and complimentary for guests. Good hotel location and breakfast was very good (much better than usual Park Inn hotels).

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?

Very good value for points because it is only 9000points for the night. I would return if I am in Kaunas.

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Park Plaza Riverbank, London, UK

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Very much so - a nice property.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked superior, upgraded to executive.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - Yes - fruit bowl.

How are the rooms?
Modern, roomy, clean - large TV and elemis toiletries (thought I was on BA for a minute).

What was good and what was bad?
Good: one of the nicest upgrades I've had - most Carlson properties consider a nice view an upgrade, rather than a better room class. Room had a beautiful view of the Thames and parliament. Clean, modern, comfortable, large TV with accessible and useable HDMI ports for your own devices.
Bad: slow check in

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Booked on the cyber monday deal for Ł89 - very good for Westminster, 1 week in advance. Upgrade was lovely. Would definitely return.

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Country Inn and Suites, Orlando, FL USA

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
No. Issues:
  • Breakfast total mess, they keep running out of staples like milk, bread, butter etc
  • The housekeeping forgot to clean our room one day. This is the first time it has ever happened to me at any hotel.
  • Although we got the suite, it wasn't really great, the living room had a sofa but no center table

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked superior, upgraded to executive.

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - Yes
Early Check In/Late Check Out - Not required
In-Room Welcome Gift - No.

How are the rooms?
Roomy, clean, No center table with sofa. Eating in the room for 3 is impossible.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Location, close to universal, sea world and about 15 minutes to Disney.
Bad: Shuttles to themeparks have terrible hours which make them virtually useless.
Other points mentioned above.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Good value for money, yes.
Return, probably (would look for other options under 15% price difference first)

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Just okay experience.

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked normal, got normal

Did you receive elite benefits?
Complimentary Room Upgrade - No (reception said I don't have CC Visa and anyways hotel is almost %100 full - like what they say all the time)
Early Check In/Late Check Out - I got approval for late check out for free till 15:00 - not sure if it's special case because I am a silver, or just same to everyone.
In-Room Welcome Gift - 2 apples. Not related with being silver as it's my first time in the hotel and apples were waiting me there with a nice note.

How are the rooms?
Really modern and big. Everything is new

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Everything is new in the hotel, have this modern look.
Bad: Location is bad. Breakfast doesn't worth the money.

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
For business reason (like I am now) yes, personally no.

Seems the property did what they should. You simply didn't like this location, due to location money/points are never a bargain here.

Just curious, why were you disappointed? Would the chocolates have made it better? My room was small, but renovated, just like you I had a great view, but no balcony, so you got a better room.

There is cheaper parking in the adjacent parking lot. there is nice app that you can scan for cheaper parking.

I found great value using points and last night free, when rates were $300. I would rather burn points than spend $600!

I see the OP's disappointment in terms of room quality, expected upgrade, and lack of gift, however, there is a silver lining here. If you have two CC credit cards and want to stay for 4 nights for 100K points rather than $1200 plus tax (another $150 or so) - a great redemption value (of $13.50 per 1000 points) even if you spend $200 on the car park. This will leave you with more $$$ to spend on dining, entertainment, and as much chocolate as you desire!

I should also add poor service for my disappointment. Balcony is nice but they are facing directly to other balcony rooms of the building. Lacks privacy. Radisson fisherman wharf claims they have one of the lowest parking fees, I guess I was sold on that..

I was expecting better rooms for a category 6 hotel which I found out to be outdated & boring.. Yes we did exactly what you said 4 nights-2 CC plus redeemed the parking fees with arrival points..

Radisson Blu Istanbul Pera

Concierge

Where did you stay? (Brand, Location, Country)
Radisson Blu Istanbul Pera

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Standard Room; "upgrade" to sea view Standard

Did you receive elite benefits?

Complimentary Room Upgrade: Debatable

Early Check In/Late Check Out: Not required

Breakfast: I was billed but they removed it

In-Room Welcome Gift:Yes, a couple trays of various turkish snacks, and a full sized bottle of wine.

How are the rooms?
The shower is awkward as it's impossible to turn on and adjust the temperature without getting soaked first. The room was otherwise new and modern, but kind of falling apart. Poor craftsmanship: the panel near the desk for power was falling out of the wall. USB port wasn't wired. One of the reading lights wouldn't turn off.

What was good and what was bad?
Good: Fantastic location

Bad: Quality of the rooms

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Average value but 50K points is good with free night from CC.

Maybe. I think I still prefer the Bosphorous location in every way except it's actual proximity to things to do.

- Where did you stay?
Park Inn Prague

- Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Yes

- Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Booked standard on points (CC 2 for 1) and wife same (4 night total)/Received Executive Room on 5th floor

- Did you receive elite benefits?
Upgrade and Breakfast. However on the third day we were told that we weren't entitled to breakfast. Told host we were told at check in we were given breakfast. Went to front desk to clarify and was told no breakfast is included. However, we did not pay for the two days taken. Poor communication on staff's part.

Welcome Gift was two bottles water and nice fruit plate

- How are the rooms?
Very clean. Good quality TV. Internet worked very well.

- What was good and what was bad?
Good: Enjoyed check in, status recognized, location great near tram and good restaurants. Bad: Told no breakfast on third day and right out lying by check in staff about this amenity. Overall loved the place and would return.

- Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Great value for points especially with credit card bonus. Definitely would return. Hopefully they would get the breakfast straight next time. As Gold I don't expect it so it was nice while it lasted.

Park Inn Prague, Czech Republic

Were you (or for multi-stayers are you generally) happy with the hotel/stay?
Satisifed but not happy

Which room did you book and which upgrade did you receive?
Business Friendly/no upgrade. The only available award rooms were "Business Friendly" which is really just a Standard Room that costs more -- it merely has extra (unused) space.

Did you receive elite benefits?

Upgrade - no
Early Check In/Late Check Out - yes, 1 hour early
Breakfast - yes

In-Room Welcome Gift:
Fruit plate/water

How are the rooms?
Spartan

What was good and what was bad?
No upgrade, spartan rooms, no availability for standard rooms for dates I checked.

OK-ish location, easy to get to old town by foot or tram. Good internet. Good breakfast (for a Park Inn, anyway).

Value for money or Gold Points? Would you return?
Business Friendly rooms are not a good value for points (42K) at all, even with 2 for 1 CC offer. Standard room award would be OK I suppose.
