Help picking hotel in San Juan, Puerto Rico

Hi everyone! I'm flying into San Juan on 2/20 and staying 4 nights. I'm trying to balance price with overall experience, and have found the following few hotels. I'm OK with paying a little more if it will make a big difference, but in general, I want to have a great birthday vacation, visit the beach easily, be close to quality nightlife, and have a resort-type feel if possible. Here are the places that I found, and I could use help deciding if any of them are worth celebrating at:

Sheraton Puerto Rico Hotel & Casino
Doubletree by Hilton San Juan
Courtyard San Juan Miramar
Hyatt House San Juan
Hyatt Place San Juan/City Center
Sheraton Old San Juan Hotel
Holiday Inn Express San Juan Condado

Ideally, I'd stay at an all-inclusive resort or a hotel offering a similar package, but I haven't found viable options without spending double or triple the above hotel's rates. Any advice in that area would be most welcomed. Thanks!

Have you looked at El Conquistador? 23 restaurants, from Starbucks to Asian. Very large resort, divided into five villages, which means you can choose from a room built into a cliffside and wrapped around its own swimming pool or one with a balcony overlooking the private marina. Some are a little dated, but there's plenty to do, including a water park and horseback riding along the beach (fee).

We can usually offer added benefits on regular published rates. PM me if you want details.
  • Complimentary Full breakfast buffet for two daily at Las Brisas Restaurant
  • Complimentary early check-in and late check-out upon availability
  • Complimentary upgrade upon availability at time of check-in
  • 75 USD Resort credit per stay and daily access to Waldorf Astoria Spa fitness and wellness area

It seems like El Conq is a bit removed from San Juan, which is where I'm planning to be. I'm also interested in a lower nightly average rate than I see for your resort.

Any other opinions? My wife and daughter are planning on doing a long dual birthday weekend (girls only).

Thanks.

I've stayed at the Holiday Inn Express San Juan Condado. Its quite basic, but clean and had a nice bed and clean restroom. I've also stayed at the San Juan Marriott, and that was very nice, but quite expensive.

What exactly they are looking for? If direct beach access, look for hotels in Isla Verde area, (Courtyard Isla Verde, El San Juan, Ritz Carlton) thought the Holiday Inn in you can walk to the beach. For shopping/sight seeing, look for hotels in San Juan area. Will they have a car? The Double Tree and Courtyard are a bit away from anything within walking distance.

Hotels in Condado area are a bit expensive, there's shopping, night life, restaurants, all within walking distance of where you stay. The Double Tree is newer, but is a bit farther away. The Sheraton hotel and Casino (Not the one in Old San Juan) has nothing near, I would not recommend it.

I was born and raised in San Juan, but live now in Chicago. I frequent SJU regularly.
