YYZ - SYD Great DEAL!!!

I was just playing around with Travelocity's best fare finder tonight when I noticed they now have a YYZ - SYD fare for $999!!! Fare basis NINTRO. This was never advertised...

This is for travel commencing on or after July, 21, 00 and last ticketing date is also that date. I thought $1399 was already a deal...

I wonder for those who have purchased them for $1399 for travel dates after July 21, can you get a credit voucher?

Now I really have to consider...!

Thanks for making my day, Empress! But seriously, I'm not sure we early purchasers will get a credit, but I'll call later this morning and see. As I noted, the flights are pretty empty, and likely the same on QF's new service too, so I suppose this is a way of encouraging new travellers to fill those seats.

Thought you were off to HKG in August, and the only problem with a mileage run like that is you have to spend at least 7-days (well 5-nights given you cross the Intl Date Line) in SYD, not just the Saturday night. I'm doubly jealous if you can find an additional week in your summer to do this!

PS

Checked the Cdn website and the new fare on my itinerary would be $1,219.36 with all taxes and fees included. I paid $1,418.29. Called Cdn but the terms of the ticket are 100% penalty for cancellation, only changes permitted are to a higher fare. (Now for sure I hope I get to use my black upgrade stickers on this trip!)

Shareholder: I am sure the new fare would only work out to around $1050. How can I resist!!

20K Q miles + 20K bonus miles + 10K loyalty bonus + upgrade both ways at time of booking all for $999!

Only 4 nights of hotels are needed since by the time the flight arrive, it'll be the second day!

My HKG trip will be in end of August while I'll try to squeeze this one in at the end of July but a couple days I've looked are already sold out in N class!

BTW, when are you going Shareholder?

The rules are ever changing....
The $1399 fare has now disappear from the system leaving only te $999 fare.

This $999 fare (NINTRO) is now valid for travel any time from now til Sep 7 while the earlier mentioned Jul 21 restriction no longer exist. The last ticket date is July 13,00...

It's getting better... and better...

My flight leaves YEG/YVR on the 9th and I return to YYZ on the 16th of August. Would you be able to get additional "blacks" to cover this trip and the one to HKG?

Well, if you do decide to go while I am in SYD, we should try to meet up with AN-Diamond.

Now if this fare were also available in the fall, I might be persuaded to go down to Australia once a month for three months just to get ExecPlat! Who knows what the future holds?

But if QF matches the fare ex-YYZ, would you not be better off taking QF and crediting the miles to your AA account? That would get you Platinum through Feb 2002, plus triple miles (basic, bonus double, and Gold double).

Although I would be better off going with QF if they matched the fare, it will be real hard for me to sit 20 hrs "Flight time" which is even longer than to HKG!! in Y class.

I would probably go in Mid July now that the fare is valid for the whole July.

I think my trip to HKG would allow me to use Blue stickers since it's either K or H class. I still have about 6 blacks left which is enough for 3 roundtrip... Trying to save those for the best!!

I am not sure what you mean by "do much better".

I personally belive this fare is already the best, I am sure they are not making any money by offering this fare.

empress did you try it or not? i find there is no point to criticize or pass judgement if you haven't followed my suggestion.

and also, you surely know what "do much better" means. i don't think there's that much of a difference between candian and american english, eh?

lonman: I have tried it on aa's site and was unable to get either a fare quote or even flights identified. All that appeared was a message to the effect that "these destinations are not served by AA" in bright red. If you were able to find a lower price on the AA site, please advise us how you did it and what that fare actually was (on CP or QF). I suspect you may have gotten a quote in US$ which would make it appear less than empress' $999.

I then went back to Cdn's site and found that the fare had gone up to $1029 plus tax.

plug in dates befor august 31, and use the make reservation program to try and book the flights. if you're are as fortunate as i was, you could find it available for between $722 and $736 from yyz-syd. i didn't want to post a price, becuase if it was an error, i didn't want it taken down.

do not use fare finder.

When I do what you say, I get only AA/QF flights via LAX or JFK with a minimum price of US$2200! They don't even display the new QF flights ex-YYZ. But if you take the fares you found and posted, and add the Canadian exchange rate, you get approximately the same fare as the C$1029 plus taxes.

By the way, we Canadians cannot purchase our tickets on the web because of credit card restrictions, but in the past I have called in the booking locator to AA res and had the tickets issued by mail.

Shareholder: The $999.00 fare didn't go up, they just added the $15 surcharge each way onto the base price. I believe if you are booked as CP 127/133 instead of CP 1027 all the way, you'll be charge an extra $15.

OK... Ionman: Let me defend myself here...

I did in fact tried it out which is why I thought I misunderstanded what you mean by "do much better". I think it there is a difference between english, it'll be between yours and mine.

This is the response I got from AA's website for you INFORMATION:

You have selected a city in your search criteria that American Airlines does not service or the flights are sold out for the dates you requested.

The dates I checked for are leaving YYZ July 10 an returning July 17. There are defintely seats available so the "sold out" option can be ruled out.

I seriously don't know where you got the price from. Even if the price are in US, it would still be higher than $999.

Please advise us again if you still think you're right and are still able to get that price in "CAD $".
