AA upgrades are like warm toast, with fresh churned butter and sweet, juicy jam

Ahhhhhhhh.

That feels better. Like the first bite of the huge turkey drumstick at Thanksgiving dinner. Or like loosening your belt after that dinner. Or heading to the bathroom and... well, you get the idea.

Called up the AA E/P desk tonight (as a CP E/P) and booked and ticketed a flight for tommorow evening. Without me asking, the agent asked if she could put me on hold while she checked on my upgrade, then promptly confirmed it. Just like the good old days. Last century. Last year. Last month.

'Course, I haven't actually received the upgrade yet. But I don't think I'll have any problem tomorrow when I fly. I'll post my experience here in any case.

I guess I'll just chock up my previous experience to a combination of an oversold flight, confusion about oneworld and CP, my AA FF number in the PNR, and a trainee agent. Kinda regret my posting now, but the agents were pretty clear at the time. Oh well, life goes on. In the J/F cabin, no less.

There is still a lot of confusion outhere but thing are getting better now. But there is a lot a work to do within both Canadian and AA to have people be aware of the new rules.

On my return flight Sunday from LAX I already had a confirmed upgrade on both segments, when I checked at the airport the AA agent told me that I was not entilted to this upgrade and that she would have to put be back in coach because since June 1st Canadian had no more agreement with AA.

I convinced her to call the AA Advantage desk (I had a AA ticket not a CP code share)and after 15 minutes on the phone she was quite surprised to learn that yes there was still an agreement with CP but on a more limited basis.

So this confusion could happen often in the next weeks to come.

Yes, confusion! Confusion!!

When I checked in with CP in TPE last week, the agent returned my AAdvantage card to me and claimed that AA is no longer a partner. Instead of arguing, I went to a different agent who took it without question. The flight has been posted to my AAdvantage account. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif

Confusion, indeed! I've been on the receiving end of that confusion from both CP and AA agents. Nevertheless, all went according to plan at BWI tonight. Only question I got was "How are you upgrading?" To which I replied "CP stickers." No problems at all.

BTW, while the AA E/P desk is sometimes a little confused, they seem to be the best of the lot.

I did my upgrade from San Diego to JFKand then going on to Paris but I could not upgrade the domestic leg last month. The agent wasn't too sure but after she checked her computer said that there will be no problem. Took the stickers off and placed them on the ticket.

I eventually got rerouted via LAX which I wasn't happy since that meant I had wasted my stickers but the gate agent took note of that and upgraded me from LAX to Paris in Business Class instead and even apologised for the weather which was the cause of the reroute in the first place.

I have many more 1999 stickers to go so that means any fare.
