AA Gold challenge?

Can anyone confirm this:

For Canadian AAdvantage members, AA now gives miles on CX flights in any class (F, A, J, D, I, Y, B, H, K, M, L, W). (www.cathay.ca) Good news. Does anyone know if this is 100% miles for all economy fares as it was when we could accrue CP points on CX flights? Or is it just 50%? That's still better than 0.

If it's 100% miles, then I think I can make the AAdvantage gold challenge (8k miles in 3 months?). Can anyone give any details about it? I read the thread about gold/platinum challenges in the AA forum and am wondering whether it is worth the effort to "invest" some mile accrual into AA for gold status in AA and some limited status in oneworld.

As far as I know it's 100% miles on CX discounted economy class flights onto Canadian-based AAdvantage members only.

Just call up AA's Customer Service line and ask them that you'd like to do the Gold Challenge. If you are already a member, AA should have given you limited Gold status already. In any case, you have to have at least 4 segments on AA first before you get the full Gold (1w-Ruby status). Only after you attain full Gold, will you be able to do the Platinum challenge(1w-Sapphire) which is valid through to 2002!

However, one thing you must bear in mind when doing the challenge. The qualifying requirement is based on POINTS and not miles. If you fly on CX in coach (say W class), you'd get the full miles (say 6500 miles between HK and Vancouver) but your qualifying points is halved of that.

The challenges are based on POINTS. Unless you plan to do them in Business and First, then it's 1.25 and 1.5 points per mile.

If you're also doing these in Business and First Class, register for the Maximizer bonus.

Few Miles - this just in:

Effective 1st June, 2000, Asiamiles will award 100% on economy Cathay Pacific fares.
The class basis for 100% mileage accrual are: Y,B,H,K,L,M and W. No miles can be accrued under G,N,O,S, and V classes.

So far this is only for CX flights, no mention for other oneWorld carriers yet as to whether this 100 % on economy class mileage accrual.

Also available - now oneway upgrade awards available from AsiaMiles. From any discounted economy class fares to Business, and from Business to First Class.
