Canadian International Air Travel Is The World's Most Expensive: Survey

It’s little wonder so many Canadians hop across the border for cheaper flights: A new study estimates Canada has the world’s highest costs for international air travel. And by a longshot.

read both articles and learn why?
The companion article (also from HF) reveals one of the major reasons i.e. Canadians pay higher air travel taxes than residents of other countries:

Why doesn't this issue get more traction? Canadians pay "low cost" WS far more to fly YOW-TPA than it costs to fly from Ogdensburg - 60 miles away?

By contrast, the Canadian government earns 'rental' revenue from Canadian airports and doesn't subsidize NavCanada.
The 'rental' revenue comes from landing fees, which are passed on to passengers in the form of higher fares.
Canada could subsidize air travel like the USA, but then that lost revenue would need to come from somewhere else, which isn't palatable to Canadians.

According to a survey by Kiwi.com, Canadians pay an average of US$94.66 per 100 km of international air travel on full-service airlines, compared to US$61.87 in Oman, the second-most expensive country
Really? Tons of flights out of YYZ to Asia and Europe are priced much less than that.
Under $1000 US typically to fly in Y to Japan or China (20,000 km round trip)...Try pricing a flight out of a transborder city like, umm, Buffalo NY to one of those cities and then decide who is cheaper.

I have met many Americans flying to YYZ just to fly to Japan and China.

Not sure - But my 49 years as a Canadian tells me that if the question was 'subsidize air travel or healthcare / education / environment / [insert here]" air travel would always come a distant second.

Seniors and the generation spending gap
Why are we doing so much to try to help seniors when they’re already the wealthiest generation in history?

But I digress

Allegiant now operates out of OGS
This week, Allegiant launched service out of Ogdensburg - reminding Canadians we pay the highest airline fees in the world:
