China Transit Program - real world experiences
I have a family member who is a Chinese national with a valid US student visa. She has a one-way flight from Shenzhen to Beijing to Vancouver to Chicago. Reading on the China Transit Program rules, she qualifies for transit through Vancouver. The eligibility requirements of the China Transit Program are:
They hold a valid passport issued by the People’s Republic of China;
-Yes she does
They hold a valid United States (U.S.) visa;
-Yes she has a valid student visa
They travel to Canada on an approved airline (either Air Canada, Air Canada Rouge, Air China, WestJet, Cathay Pacific, China Southern, Philippines Airlines, Jazz Air, Sky Regional Airlines Inc., and Air Georgian);
-She will be flying Air Canada on the Beijing to Vancouver leg
and
They transit through an approved Canadian airport (either Vancouver International Airport or Toronto’s Pearson International Airport, Terminal 1 only). A change of terminal between flights in Toronto’s Pearson International Airport does not qualify as a condition of the CTP.
-Yes she will be transiting through Vancouver on an onward flight leaving the same day (no overnight layover)
So it does appear she is eligible to transit through Canada as she meets all the requirements. However, does anybody have any real world experiences on what the China Transit Program is like for the traveler? Will she take longer to pass through immigration in Canada? Are Canadian officers well-versed in this program, and will the process be smooth sailing? Will agents in Beijing question if she can actually board the flight or not? Looking for any real world experiences you know of from someone who actually used the China Transit Program. Thanks.
