Connection in YYZ - transit time
I would guess that no. Now the usual questions, are both legs are on a single ticket, consequences if you do not make the connection etc.
I was in the same position last week and wanted to post my experience. I had read of horror stories about queues and was prepared with a list of alternative flights if I did miss my connection (allowed myself 2:30 hours incoming from Europe connecting to an internal flight).
I made it in an hour, but was exceptionally lucky. Arriving YYZ Friday early afternoon.
1. Disembarking the plane - sidelined by immigration for questioning (good start) - they were fast and professional though.
2. CBSA - NO queue at all - straight through.
3. Luggage arrived after about 30 minutes
4. Customs - zero queue. Dropped off luggage.
4. Security - 20 minutes. Apparently the security upstairs (non-interconnecting) had a much shorter queue, but the security staff only thought to bring it up after someone in a rush asked...
So about 60 minutes from touchdown to departure gate, but I think this was exceptional, with no delay at all at CBSA and customs.

Unless you have NEXUS and are familiar with YYZ T3, I would not recommend it. You have to walk a long way to clear Canadian customs, then go upstairs and clear US customs and security. Perhaps you'll get lucky and lines will be short and everything will be on time. But I would NOT do it.

Do you need to get your DL boarding pass?
AA & DL both use Terminal 3, so you should be okay IF
- no delay leaving from NYC <-- quite normal
- no delay in immigration into Canada

You didn't say if you were on 1-ticket (you'll be protected anyway NYC-YYZ-DTW) or 2-tickets (GOOD LUCK)

I have never had to connect at YYZ T3 but had many arrivals and departures.
It is doable but stars have to line up. All factors making this possible have been posted upthread.
You did not tell us which day of the week your morning connection is on. It makes a difference. US bound CBP and CATSA tends to be longers lines on Monday mornings.

I think it is very challenging. Your connection time is not the actual time. You need to be at the gate 20 minutes ahead. You should call Delta and ask if they can have someone help you through or be prepared to ask to cut ahead in the lines if they are long - and apologize a lot.

- arrival Canadian immigration/custom
- departure US immigration/customs
- CATSA flight security
T1 has a fast-track to US bound immigration without entering Canada. There is still a CBSA document check vs full entry immigration.

This would be an illegitimate routing (i.e., cabotage) if booked on one ticket - so I doubt DL will be particularly helpful if you miss the connection.
As has been previously mentioned, this is cutting it very close. If you were flying AC from LGA, I'd suggest getting to the airport early and asking to get bumped to an earlier flight, as they're pretty accommodating on this route. However, you seem to be on the day's first AA flight to YYZ, so that isn't an option.
