How to find a GP in Vancouver?
 

Nobody is taking new patients. :confused:

It is super hard.

I have a GP and he is not accepting new patients now for at least the past decade. Only new patients he has accepted is if they are born into his patient list or married into his patient list.

Thus my wife got in via me.

They explained that they are too busy as is and the money is not relatively great in comparision to other forms of doctor. My GP has advertised for a partner for 5 years and not one bite so he says.

So I feel for you.

Heck, I treasure my GP so much, I commute from China to see him.

Single practitioner offices are pretty much a thing of the past. You are more or less forced to use a 'clinic' and hope that you find one or more of the incumbents to your liking. The upside is that there is almost always someone who will see you (eventually) as a 'walk-in'.

It is not accurate.

So then how does a BC'er deal with getting to see a specialist?

Walkin Clinic doctors.

Since they are usually ears-nose-throat doctors and anything that takes more than a couple of minutes to deal with isn't making them any money so they send you to see a specialist.

You can see by the tone of my posts that I can't stand walkin clinics however they are a necessary evil. If I need a quick perscription for antibiotics or a topical steriod, best place to get it. They won't question it cause that would take too much time.

My old GP in Calgary closed his practice and banded together with a few other GPs to make their own clinic, so I can definitely agree that this is the future! (unfortunately)

In Ontario there are hospitals that have set up group Family Medicine clinics. I assume that this is not unique to Central Canada. The term "GP" has been replaced by Family Medicine as a specialty.
