MiniRTW Back to the Banana Republic of Canada

Arrived back in Toronto yesterday after a miniRTW on Aeroplan

YYZ WHAT A DISGRACE .

9 countries and Canada is the only country that

Cannot figure out the immigration lines for its own citizens.

Lineups over an hour long. Where you from ? Canada. too bad line up behind every one else just because you are a citizen doesn't make you different.

HERE'S TIP

Go in the connecting flights line tell them you are going to Ottawa and skip the long line

Then we take the rapid transit to downtown.

Oh wait a second we are back In the 3rd world(Bali, Cambodia , Hanoi)

Toronto the world class wannabe can't get you downtown unless by cab or bus

YYZ isn't as bad as LHR or some in the US.

Why we can't do it in the British Red/Green channel way, I don't know.

Airport connectivity is ... well it's laughably bad. I was in DEL earlier this year. Even that monster of chaotic organization has conjured up a direct high speed metro service to the airport. How they pulled it off in a city as crowded as Delhi, I do not know. But if they could, I can't understand why we can't.

Politically influential cab companies?

YYZ customs line is getting better. At least there's a "Canadian Residents" section to the queue now.

Used my new Nexus card for the first time (at YVR) the other week. The heavies from Europe had come in with the resultant long lines. I just breezed through.

I have never in my life experienced an hour-long wait at Canadian immigration at any airport in Canada, including in YYZ at peak periods. I'm usually in and out within five minutes. Are you sure you're not exaggerating just a touch?

Meanwhile, I have regularly experienced 30-minute-plus waits at both YYZ and YUL when departing for the US and going through US procedures (and I'm a US citizen.) I've also waited that long or more in line to go through immigration at IAD. And at LHR (albeit in the non-EU line.)

I really don't see much to complain about in Canada.

The last time I arrived from overseas via YUL it took me half an hour to get to the bottom of the stairs so I could use Nexus. The line was backed up down the hall and around the corner.
