Accommodation options for ~1 month visit to San Diego? Recommendations?

I would need some help with this.

Couple and a 3 yr old son will be visiting California for about a month and would like to stay around San Diego. We are searching for all available accommodation options possible. We know there are the hotels but would like to know if there is possibility of renting an apartment for that short period of a month in a safe environment. Can this be possible? Will be renting automobile too...

All suggestions welcomed. Thanks

Try Craigslist for vacation rentals or go through a rental agency.

Many thanks. So do you think rental agency would rent out for a month? Could you kindly tell, what are the areas to avoid?

Yep, there are many vacation rental properties that do monthly rentals.

The majority of the vacation rental properties are going to be in the beach locations such as: Ocean Beach, Mission Beach, La Jolla, Del Mar, Oceanside.

I would avoid Imperial Beach (sewage from Mexico hits these beaches a lot and it's not the most desirable area. Plus it's so far south from everything.)

Some areas of OB (Ocean Beach) are sketchy but that's just OB.

Concur with renting a house - especially for a month. You might get a decent deal if you can black out a rental property for 30 days....

I'd never use Craigslist for a vacation rental.

Look at Vacation Rental By Owner.com (VRBO.com) and FlipKey.com from TripAdvisor.

South Mission Beach would be my first choice for a nice, quiet location followed by Mission Beach, Pacific Beach and Downtown San Diego.

+1

Mission Beach is a good location for what you're wanting to do. You could also look up north (Encintas & Carlsbad are nice).

I would also check homeaway.com in addition to the above sites - between the three you should have no problems finding a monthly rental.
