easyJet cancellation. Are they lying?

Yesterday (Monday 2nd May) easyJet made an announcement in Manchester T1 that flight EZY1957 from MAN to FNC had been cancelled "... due to bad weather in Funchal".

I was on a different flight so not affected but checked the weather in Funchal: The weather was fine (sunny, with a low of 18șC, a high of 23șC and hardly any wind) and showed no sign of any sort of bad weather.

Could easyJet have been lying so as to have a 'legitimate' reason not to issue affected passengers with compensation?

I think serious wind is often a factor there.
