Cheap UK - Atlanta flight.

Hello all ,

Bit of a newbie here. I am contemplating spending my savings to fly to Atlanta to see a friend. I'm trying to sneak this 7-10 day trip in before I move to Africa. Does anybody know where I can find such a cheap flight? The cheapest I have found so far is £867, which is just a little outside of my budget.

Any help appreciated.

Thank you !

Hey there,

I'm afraid not as I move to Africa on the 10th August so it'll be a last minute trip before then. I have somebody whom has offered me a half price ticket with United Airlines because "they are an employee" but I'm not too trusting.

Cool

Try to get to Florida on a low fare first. I think you may have a better shot at that. Maybe Condor, Thomas Cooke, Thomson, Icelandair, Air Berlin? Then look at AirTran flights to get up to Atlanta (perhaps Delta too), or you can rent a car.

I tried Florida but it didn't seem to be any cheaper. Does anybody know of the United Airlines employee scheme? Is it feasible that this guy can sell me a half price ticket, which is not on stand by seats?

You can potentially get from Heathrow to Newark for about £500 on United, cross New York, and get from Laguardia or JFK to Atlanta for something like £164 on Airtran or Delta. Getting the schedules to work right without an overnight in New York might be tricky, but this at least has the potential to be significantly cheaper than what you found.

(Newark to JFK, take the NJT #62 bus to PATH to the A-Lefferts train to the Q10 bus. Newark to LGA, take the NJT #62 bus to PATH to the E train to the Q33 bus. Total cost of either option about $6, total time 2.5-3 hours.)

Note that the EWR-JFK or JFK-EWR trek is WAY worse than the LHR-LGW trek. Very nasty, time consuming, costly, and variable.

I don't dispute that EWR-JFK is significantly more time-consuming and variable than taking one of the direct LHR-LGW coaches, but I don't know where you're getting "costly". The route I described costs about $6 each way, which is cheaper than the cheapest LHR-LGW option (tube to pre-booked easybus).

BA is as cheap as I can find. It is usually the cheapest. I would also look at Delta ATL-LHR.

flights to Dublin from the US are cheap now. Ryanair connections from London-Dub are cheap as well.
