Creative routing for cheap South America flight?

Hi,

I'm not sure what forum this belongs in, so please feel free to move it.

I'm traveling from NYC to BOG, spending several weeks there (but <90 days) this summer, and then traveling to UIO for a couple of weeks before returning to NYC.

On the mileage run forum, I've seen deals in which people have extended a "layover" to last many weeks. In this case, that could be a routing to UIO via BOG, with a long layover in BOG. Does anyone know how this might be done or if this is possible? Or, any similar creative ways to get a cheaper coach ticket?

Thanks.

use multi city on your favorite booking engine.....

Thank you for your replies so far.

While I'm familiar with multicity search and travel tools, those tools don't yield the results for which I'm asking. They allow you to specify origin and destination, but often don't allow much more flexibility (other than ITA). That said, if I put my "long layover" as a stopover point in ITA, (x:BOG) then I do get something close to what I'm looking for, but still more expensive. But I'm not sure if I can extend the BOG layover to two months, or how I would do that. Any ideas?

Thanks

EDIT: Here's the fare rule on one such fare:

Stopover restrictions
UNLIMITED STOPOVERS PERMITTED ON THE PRICING UNIT
LIMITED TO 1 FREE AND UNLIMITED AT USD 100.00 EACH.
NO STOPOVER OCCURS IF PASSENGER TAKES NEXT AVAILABLE
FLIGHT WITHIN 24 HOURS.

That seems to suggest that I could stop over in BOG for an unlimited period of time. Is that correct? How do I book that without a travel agent?

Cheaper than what? That would help
Approximate dates - That would help.
Some cheap fares have 60 days max stay, others 90 days.

Little point for someone to look for possibilities for you only to find that it doesn't fit your travel plans because you haven't given sufficient details of what those plans are
