Hmm... you piqued my interest with Frontier... then I did a search for a random weeked in early February. The fare is $582? ?!?! That's low season, not Thanksgiving weekend.

And thanks for pointing out the slot restrictions, I don't fully understand that mechanism, but it does moderate my expectations. I'm pretty happy with the LGA-FLL schedule, so looks like I'm sticking to that for my cheapo flights.

It's low fare up until Dec.19. Maybe Frontier has plans to cancel the route?

Southwest sells low fares between CAK-LGA. I checked southwest.com and see many $65-70 fares.

Frontier just announced LGA-MIA twice daily beginning 12/20, so that's likely why fares got higher after then, in preparation of dropping the flights.

Spirit has cut down the frequencies of routes from MCI even though they started the service only a few months ago. Dallas and Houston are 4 times a week from daily. Are the loads so less or is this winter schedule?

Spirit adds LBE-LAS nonstop

http://triblive.com/mobile/7085178-9...airport-spirit

Spirit adds new nonstop from LBE-LAS. This route will becomes effective Apr 16, 2015.

And also, they tried LBE-DFW for a short-lived, but they discontinued them because of low passengers numbers. They couldn't survive for any much longer.

Looks like a shot across the bow against United, and on top of the earlier additions of Cleveland service.

Most of it duplicates cities served out of FLL, so they'd need to expand IAH flights to catch connections from more U.S. cities. Maybe it's also related to growing pains at FLL.

Fares are cheap, too. Saw fares as low as $250 RT on some of the internationals. Most in the $290-$310 range.

Somehow I missed this when first posted.

Looks like TLC came at the expense of DFW, as all that's left are Cabo and Cancun to Latin America from Dallas.

Surprised that NK didn't move to Hobby with it geting set up for int'l service.

^^^^^^

This is the big bombshell I've been hoping for as far as ATL goes. WN just hasn't been getting the competitive job done. Now you'll have Spirit with charge-for-everything but low base fares, plus WN with higher fares but the two free bags.

And then you have DL, which charges for the bags unless you're an elite, and they have a lot fewer of those now. A mile flown isn't a mile earned anymore, and a $200 ticket might get you 1,000 miles, whereas with Spirit you can get RTs as low as 5K if you get the credit card and travel off peak. Spirit and WN both have scenarios that reward low-rev leisure travelers better than DL does, which is a turnaround from the old model where DL could use the FF program as a selling point against low-cost competitors.
