BA's 747 Best Seat?

First of all, I'm a silver club member if it makes any difference. I heard some airlines reserve the best seats for the silver and gold members but I'm not sure.

I don't care much about the seat when flying with club world since most are the same though I always prefer the upper deck. However, this time I'm going LHR -> Beijing on a daytime flight as I thought I would use up the miles I gathered, some 250,000+ and in Economy. Unfortunately once you buy this ticket you can't make anymore upgrades to it so I'm stuck with it.

So, what seat would you people recommend for economy, one that has a lot of leg room. I took a look at BA's seat plan https://www.britishairways.com/trave...urce=mmb_ob_mf but couldn't figure out whether the seats in front of the bulkheads (row 39 or 33) are best or if the bulk heads actually reduce from the legroom. I then read on here about 46A being the best seat (http://home.wangjianshuo.com/archive...boeing_747.htm) though I can't figure out why. I tried to do my research on here http://www.seatguru.com/airlines/Bri..._747-400_B.php but it's saying the best seats are in the middle aisle though that must be quite uncomfortable to be next to two people on either side. And does anyone know if BA uses the 52-Bus or 70-Bus Boeing 747?

I'm going to get my secretary to check me in on Monday as soon as the online check in opens so I can get the best seat. But which?

Since you're using 250k miles to travel in economy: I presume there are several of you travelling: how many there are might help in answering your question.

As a quick point of clarification, unless you are very tall, the bulkhead seats do offer more leg-room.

And finally, yes, a check of the sticky might prove informative.

BA's 747 Best Seat.

The Pilot gets that one. Great View. Lots of buttons to fiddle with to pass the time.

Cheers Larry.

Ever heard of manners?

Now, now, stefan.aerts repetitive question or not that's not how we welcome newcomers here - this is the BA board not some Costa charter airline company board. There'll be no chav talk here.

Welcome crystak - please furnish us with more information as you are not being very clear with your question.

Quite right, Hiddy.

Welcome crystak. The sticky at the top will provide some general guidance to improve your experience. In addition, if you have not checked seatexpert.com, then do try it as you will also get some helpful guidance regaing seats that are seen as preferable. When in WT, especially if travelling with a companion, I quite favour the pairs at the rear of the aircraft - rows 51-53 BC and JK.

As mentioned by Hiddy, if you advise details of the dates you are travelling, we can advise you of the likely configuration, although there is always a small chance that this could change.

On the assumption that you are travelling on the BA1039 on 4 August at 12:55, I see from expertflyer.com that WT starts at row 33 on this 70J 747. I have not sat in row 40 so cannot advise, although it appears that most seats have already been selected in this row.

Going forward, my main suggestion is to gain lots of useful insights from the experts on this board and learn how to avoid WT without too much cost!

Have a good trip.

Many among us will have noticed FT's search isn't functioning as effectively as it should be. It is a frustrating situation as our community should be able to depend on the search engine firing on all cylinders. However, snippy answers are inexcusable. They really do not help us here.

To those who have stepped in to assist the OP with his query, thank you for your positive replies.

Regards,

Prospero

I would just point out to the OP that if he is Silver, he doesn't need to wait until OLCI opens to choose his seat - one of the perks of silver and gold.

I sat in 53G recently and thought it was great despite its negative press. First served for food, not as noisy as everyone says. lovely!

You maybe not be able to upgrade, but you can - if available! - book new CW redemption and then just cancel the WT redemption. Maybe there is cancellation fee of few pounds for silver, but otherwise you get everything back.

And as mentioned above if you're silver you can select seats any time!

Ah thanks guys!

I actually did try to find this answer by searching before posting but with no luck. I'm only using 80,000 miles for the flight as I'm travelling by myself but I didn't upgrade when I got the ticket since I thought I could do it later. I wasn't aware I could cancel this and get back the miles? I will have a look later.

TravellerFrequently, you're right; that's my flight! And if I can select the seat before check in opens, then I'll do it when I get home (we learn new things every day! One of the benefits of joining this helpful community! ). I'll see if any of the bulkhead seats are still available!

Thanks everyone!

Club World seat is available for award on your flight Aug 4, so if you wanted you could book and then cancel your current flight. By calling you can also do one way in CW and one way in WT for example, all depending on availibility of course.
