"The Drunks List"

On my flight BSL-LHR lunchtime today I was back in the gods (well, row 11). B***y the Purser came along after the sandwich service with a piece of paper discretely hidden in one of the blue plastic trays used to collect glasses. No names shouted out or OTT welcome, but asked me "Are you OK for drinks sir". As it was lunch time one wine was adequate. "Fine thanks. What have you got there" I asked, "is it the drunks list". Modest amusement all round and the response "No, just a list of people to look out for"! Very nicely done I thought.

So I would assume majority of FTers are on the list?

When I asked for a white wine in WTP last Saturday during the pre-lunch drinks round I was immediately given two bottles!

When I asked for white wine in ET a couple weeks ago around 8:30-ish in the morning, I first got an answer "At this time in the morning? Are you serious?", then I got some red colour on my face and finally also the bottle.

That's what I see frequently on Sunday morning flights if I travel in ET, except that the main choice of drink seem to be two cans of beer instead of wine.

I haven't seen that happen in CE on a Sunday morning - because there there was no-one else in the cabin.

Being a water drinker (I do not drink alcohol on board - it doesn't do my skin any good, and I hardly drink anyway), I usually get asked if I am sure I don't want anything else, especially in CE/CW (not so much in ET).

My regular patter is to arrive on an overnight flight - have a glass of champers in the lounge and then want a glass of wine on my way to Scotland.

I have never had the courage to ask for anything other what is offered - but to me it is only about midnight - but I never get a glass of wine for the sake of feeling like an alchy

And I am about to meet the parents so a glass of wine is really deserved I think !

What?? How dare they! 8.30 it may be to them, but who know what time it is to your bady clock. That is an amazing answer and one which I would take serious exception to.

My husband would probably leave me but my wicked tongue would probably say - "You are right I am joking - so make that a double Gin and Slim whilst you are about if that sounds more serious to you!"

You are supposed to imbibe it, not apply to your face!

Sadly my tongue was blunt in the morning, but as it was a flight from HEL and knowing my thirsty fellow Finnish pax, I should've mentioned that she was in for a surprise if she thought that I'd be the only "alcoholic" on board!

i was just going to say this must have been this CS's first go round on the HEL run....this was pretty standard when I lived in GOT on the GOT flights to LGW many years ago.....too bad due to the liquid policy there is no more clanking of carry on full of booze on the flights back....ahhh....the good old days of taking 3 or 4 L of Scotch home after a short trip to London...

LOL!! Surely alcoholic bathing on board is to be encouraged though? At least I'll be pretty sterile after a bottle of vodka? (Please make it Belvedere)

Indeed... I have to admit, I was a little shocked on my first HEL trip..:

2 x Vodka Miniatures with 2 cans of Coke with ice.
2 x Bottles of Red Wine
1 x Orange juice
2 x Still water
1 x Coffee

You can imagine how long people have to wait for their drinks when the entire aircraft are placing drinks orders like that...

Oh... and what is a CS?

Probably 'Cabin Saint'.

On the other hand, it could be Cabin Satan, the one that gives out so many drinks that leads passengers down the road to hell...

I'm sure you've done the 2-night Helsinki and thus experienced just how expensive a meal and a drink is up there ... this might sound presumptuous but could it be because the alcoholic drinks we offer are cheap i.e. FREE?

.....the pax that placed that order must have taken it easy the night before........

the best comment from a FA on a BA flight to me from GOT to LGW was when I asked for a bottle of water towards the end of the flight...response, perhaps you should not have drank so much scotch....come, I said, do you know how much scotch costs in Sweden....I have to drink as much as I can get...
