Thats really too bad, my wife and I would really like to go to the Maldives but dont want to do a double connect through Dubai, etc. Do any airlines fly from LHR or LGW to MLE? Thank you.

I think one of the charter airlines may do but not sure which one. I'll a look and see what I can find out.

If not, it'll be EK via DXB (LHR or LGW) or I believe you can connect through CMB with Air Lanka (LHR).

OK - Thomson do.

Thank you sunrisegirl, I appreciate it. Have never flown Thomson, but people always seem to be smiling when they are on their tours in the south of spain.

I was hanging on, hoping, but now my hard earned cash will be going into Emirate's pockets when we go to MLE in Dec (and no, I am NOT going BA to DXB and hanging around all night then picking up the EK flight to MLE!!). At least I'll get to compare the EK A380 J with QF's

I would have though Saint Maarten would have been an ideal addition, as I believe apart from tour operators, only KLM fly there from Europe?

You can fly direct with Sri Lankan.

Another option, which others on here have suggested, is LHR to Doha on BA and then on to Male on Qatar Airways. May be worth considering. I think BA have really missed a trick here.

Agreed, I am really surprised that BA doesn't see the opportunity to fill their premium cabins given the significant number of high end resorts in the Maldives.

QR and WY (OmanAir) have the only sensible MLE timings as far as I'm concerned.

The frequency varies week by week, but is usually somewhere between 5x per week and daily.

They usually have a 777 on this route.

well lets not forget..........

havnt we got some more BA 772's joining the fleet this year and then some 773's next year. Yep it would of been nice to have more new LGW routes announced today but lets wait for some more airframes to be freed up from LGR and i would like to think that some more routes will find the way down to LGW along with as i said in another thread some different 320 series aircraft!

Thomson / First choice are now part of the same group and probably the easiest direct non-stop flight, (Lon-MLE) more leg-room in economy than BA and also offer a reasonable "premium" (economy) style cabin with 37" (or so) leg-room at the front of the 767's.
They also have early orders for 787's (ahead of BA) which I look forward to seeing at Gatwick.
Other options will either be Monarch and / or Thomas cook on A330's. Again, both operators offer a "premium" cabin.
If you want real business or first class, The Qatar flights are Fab all-round, and allthough the EK flight is late, at about 03:00 from DXB, if you are travelling from the UK thats still only 11pm U.K. time most of the year!!
