Some of these fares were bookable on ba.com but the PE fares seemed only to work on qantas.com. Example fares:

SYD £614 economy, £1428 PE
MEL £607 economy, £1421 PE

* original end date of March 31st was extended.
** extended end date of April 6th was extended again!

Note: there also seemed to be some WT+ sales on BA to Syd for about £1280 valid until June 15th but like the Qantas Business/First sale they didn't seem to be actively promoted by BA

Hints, tips, gotchas and non Ex-UK sales

Fare Sale end dates - in one of the February 09 sales, the sale of fares actually ended before it was supposed to. Lesson learnt is not to leave it to the last minute!! And more recently in June 2012 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...says-will.html

Shareholder Discounts - most sale fares are standard published fares so you should be able to use your shareholder discount although I believe there are some exceptions. If you find otherwise then please let me know and I'll update accordingly.

MFUs - most fares can be MFUd subject to the usual Ts and Cs of booking on ba.com and paying any extra fuel surcharge

Regional Add-ons - you can usually add-on a regional flight (EDI/GLA/NCL/MAN). This used to be about £50 but as of September 2011 seems to be £58 for WT and £108 for WT+/Club/First. If it's a WT+ ticket then these book in J earning an extra 40TPs and allow lounge access for the domestic sectors. Add-ons also available ex-JER for an extra 80TPs (thanks G-BOAC!)

Qantas offers - register on qantas.com and they will send you their offers - their sales are typically just a few days long and often only bookable on qantas.com

Expedia - it was reported in this thread that some sale fares were available exclusively on Expedia but without the 28-day advance purchase rule. If you see a fare you like it may be worth shopping around if the dates don't suit you. This offer disappeared before the end of the fare sale so grab it if you can.

Promotional Codes
- you can sometimes apply a promotional code to sale fare to get a further saving. I'll highlight any I know about in post #1 above. An exmple is discussed in this thread

When will the next sale be? - we don't know!! This question is asked so often that there is now a thread dedicated to it - speculation and rumour can be found here: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...dont-know.html. I will update post #1 of this thread if there is anything concrete that we know.

Tier Points and BA Miles - Sale fares book into regular booking classes (usually O, T A and I) and earn regular BA Miles and Tier Points

Holiday Sales - there are also occasionally sales that are only valid if you buy flight + hotel. Any good ones we will highlight on this thread.

Saturday Night stay requirements - pretty much every fare requires a Saturday night stay. If you can't stay a Saturday night you can sometimes avoid this requirement by booking a Flight+Hotel deal

3-2-1 Sales - Sometimes BA will have a 3 day sale to a certain destination or area. I haven't worked out yet how 'good' they are yet and they tend to be economy only. I will keep an eye on them and post any news on this thread.

Nice idea, matthewuk. Notes from me:

1) The 5-day WT+ sale can be MFUd. With the weekend supplement + extra fuel surcharge, I paid 540 for a NYC MFU yesterday ^

2) For regional CW sale addons, look at JER. I had JER-CAI pricing up cheaper than LON-CAI. That's an extra 80 TPs as it's real CE! Couldn't be arsed with the extra hassle in the end though so booked direct. But one to keep in mind.

Sorry if this has been covered in another thread. I eagerly anticipated the current CW sale especially since the booking window extended into December. I quoted for November flights to SYD via BKK online. The direct flight fare was the same as the advertised sale price but breaking the journey in BKK triggered a significant uplift. I understand the rationale so decided to try one of the big travel firms that specialise in long-haul and asked for a One World business class fare from MAN to AKL with a break in BKK. The fare they quoted was extremely attractive and cheaper than I could obtain in the BA Sale: out on BA and QF A380 back. Moral of the story is to shop around and not assume that the sale prices are the cheapest you can obtain.

Club World sale extended?

Looks like the Club World sale has been extended. On http://www.britishairways.com/travel...s/public/en_gb the header says "Sale Extended - Book by 7 April" even though the front does not match that.

Ticket sales in premium cabins were down 20% YoY in February and, extrapolating from other economic data, could even have deteriorated in March. There is no reason to think that BA will end such sales any time soon, expect them to keep rolling.

Post #1 is now updated to reflect the extension. The free regional add-ons have sadly disappeared

I'm sure BA do get a rush of bookings just as the sale is ending, so ending it more than once presumably generates even more bookings. Of course, over the long run this effect may fade if people expect all sales to be extended, and it also makes them look a bit desperate/indecisive/incredible.

Worked with me anyway. At 3am last night I spotted I could still get CE bookings to/from MAD for £150 and thinking of this as a mistake/omen, and the opportunity would vanish within hours, I snapped up another such booking (with the cheapest economy ticket at £138 on that flight - so a £12 upgrade fee which is worth it for the extra miles alone!). Had I known I had until April 7, I would have waited and there is roughly a 25% chance I would have decided not to make the trip at all.

How funny, I’ve just realised that the LHR - BOS WT+ MFU to CW I booked on Monday was in the sale ^.

In retrospect, £546 is quite a reasonable fare…

Do you think that QF will extend their CW/First fares after today?
