Upgrading from a cheap economy ticket
Is this at all possible or can I only upgrade when I have a fully flexible economy ticket?
Thanks in advance

Where are you flying from/to? If shorthaul, the £59/£125/insert random value here upgrade offer may appear at T-24 on travel agent bookings, or sooner for bookings directly with BA. ISTR that BA were trialling WT to WT+ online offers, but don't have any first hand experience of this.

Upgrading with miles or money? Miles upgrade only applicable to YBH and higher booking classes, but all discount economy tickets can be upgraded with money for a change fee (and sometimes via a special upgrade offer in MMB).

Four call center agents had huge problems trying to upgrade one leg of a trip I had in discount economy. None of them could get the computer to do it correctly, it apparently couldn't deal with upgrading only one leg. The workaround would've been buying a whole new trip

Despite selecting a one way upgrade to WTP returning from SFO at the time of making a discount booking, the BA call centre said if I wanted, I could upgrade my outward leg to WTP for £280 plus a £50 change fee
So it is possible on a discount fare from my experience
