Heathrow/Gatwick

I am booked DUS-LHR, transfer to Gatwick-VRN and return in business class. How is the transfer at LHR handled? Cattle bus again?

There is no 'organised' transfer as such - you are on your own. You'll need to claim your luggage at LHR and go through immigration/customs.

There is a bus service between the airports, which should take around 90 minutes.

A quicker way would be to order a car, but that will be expensive.

Cheers,
Rick

One would imagine that there is some sort of Shuttle for Elite or Business/First passengers, run by BA - maybe I am too pampered by LH's HON treatments...

A few years ago one would have imagined correctly. Not now however to be best of my knowledge.

It's a long connection and BA do not provide any transport. You have to find and pay for the bus to take you to LGW. Is there a better routing from DUS?

Whatever class you fly, there is no complimentary transfer. A serious pain, to be avoided if possible.

Don't imagine this helps much, given if the OP wanted to use a LCC, they wouldn't be fiddling around with LON airports from DUS, but easJet fly CGN-LGW, and Ryanair have just started a new NRN-LGW route.

Can only assume a DUS-LON-VRN routing must be a TP run?

Up to a few years ago at least, you did not have to pay the Speedlink bus fare if you showed the driver your LHR / LGW boarding passes.

I think that probably dates from the days before BA "enhanced" their SH network, so that LHR focused on Northern European business destinations, whilst LGW was left to specialise in the Southern European bucket and spade resorts.

IIRC, when one of my GLA-LGW flights was cancelled last year and I was accommodated at the last minute on a LHR one, I was handed a voucher at the top of the disembarkation ramp in LHR T1, then had to do something at the central coach station before it would be accepted on the National Express coach (we live right near LGW, hence the need to get back there rather than HEX it into the Smoke).

... but this is not the case now; it's £19 one way - show your BA BP at the National Express ticket desk for a £2 discount.

Indeed. Seems a painfully roundabout way of routing.

Given that the queue in the central coach station has been hell on earth each of the (thankfully infrequent) times I've been in there, I'd gladly stump up the extra £2 to avoid the anguish and buy from a machine.

Of course, T5 must have its own desk these days, so that may not be as hellish as it once was. Do the T5-LGW buses have to go via T4, or do they now just go straight out and join the queuing traffic on the M25?

I think that ticket machines are the only option at T5. There are three of them plus a small help desk; when walking past the point I overheard the person at the desk telling someone they were there for booked ticket assistance only, not sales.

There might be a sales kiosk at the bus stop, but it's not a transfer I've had to make, thank goodness.

Do not pass go. Do not correct 200 quid. Go directly to the M25 parking lot....

To be honest, as I generally arrive late morning / early afternoon the M25 has been kind to me recently. Now where's that wood....

I must admit that I detest the speedlink coach.... having missed a flight (the only one I have ever missed) as we were stuck on the M25....
I now purchase a Southern only (trains) travel card for about £11.00 and travel LGW-Victoria (35mins)- Underground (45 mins)- LHR if I am only carrying hand baggage....
