You may have noticed at the north end that there is what seems a good half mile hike to the aircraft along some of the longest jetties I have ever met. According to one of the Trial Managers the original plan was to have the North end longer and closer to the runway. She said it was a post 9/11 change of plan, but I am inclined to think it was the planning muppets!

Coming from CDG and going back over the last two weeks has been quite pleasant. There are still some minor irritating details such as the landside lifts but it has been overall quite good. In line with the previous comments, there seems to be a number of possible bottlenecks when long-haul flights move to T5:

- South security, especially the fast track lane, can be very slow, even when there are just 5 passengers queuing
- two IRIS machines, one of which can be out of service, doesn't seem to be enough
- the number of baggage belts for T5 (I've seen nine baggage belts numbered 3 through 11, I guess I must have missed 1&2) seems rather understated.

Baggage reclaim belts 1 & 2 are for domestic pax and are on the other side of the wall by belt 3 ( north end of the terminal). I think there might have been also an oversize belt 0.

Yesterday evening arrived into T5 from Basel. Longish walk to passport control, then no queues. Quick trip to the loo, bags (one oversized) first off the carousel (?#6), on the Hex withing 30 mins of landing. It can work very well.
