The F Lounge (where I am currently sat) is the closest thing to Heaven on Earth.

Today - perfectly ventilated, lovely staff on reception, arrived just in time for the food to come out, the goats cheese tart is delishhhhous, and those veggie curry paninis mmmmmm, and the whole lounge (and terminal in general) is empty empty empty. Fast track (at the north end, at least) was not only manned, but had a rope across with a lovely girl checking BP, to prevent Premium Wannabees jumping in.

I could spend the rest of my life here, drinking champagne and easting goats cheese gart. Sigh...

And the experience was further enhanced by the sight of some angry Germans on the way in, outraged that der Flug nach somewhere or other is cancelled or delayed, and that, to get to T2, they have to escorted out of T5from somewhere but nobody is sure where. Ha.

My only niggles -
(1) you have you to go to a CI desk to get a e-ticket receipt. Why are the machines prevented from printing one, if you have already PYOBPed?
(2) the stupid stupid tray system. Today I lost the contents of a tray - coins, papers, business cards - as they dropped as I was retrieving my jacket. Once dropped, they are lost forever, and take a peek down there, and guess what - the space underf the trays (which no-one can get to) is full of coins, cards, toiletries, hairbrushes, cabling (!?), bits of machines (!?) and about half a ton of dust. Bizarre. Well I hope when they dismantle the machines (soon, I hope), those coins go to Change for Good. They should damn well change those scanners for good.

Agreed, it's a wonderful place. I've only spent half an hour there so far but am looking forward to more.

Re niggles:

(1) you should print it from MMB (can print it directly from the site or have it emailed to your PA for example)

(2) aaargh .... completely insane. Who designs these things, thinking nothing ever goes wrong? Self-returning trays, fine if that's what is needed, but why not just have a simple open conveyor that runs under the table in full view, so "lost" objects can easily be retrieved? Was there a BAA person pushing a button each time a tray was ready to be dropped, and who therefore didn't notice your coins? When I went through a couple of weeks ago the empty trays didn't drop until that button was pushed, one at a time.

"Ha"?! I seem to recall on D-Day that this scenario was not played out with angry Germans but with an angry Smirnoff?

But I don't want the receipt on 6 pages of A4, I want it on a nice neat card. How can anyone do their expenses with a 6 page receipt?

Oh yes, and they had a chuckle, because there is no way they can reach the dropped items, so the pile of coins and papers and other nik-naks just piles up and up. And the amount of dust down there is an asthma sufferers worst nightmare.

Exactly.

All the more reason it gives me pleasure to see other people trapped. Ha.

Have you not used the SSCI at LHR T5 yet?

They don't have nice little cards it is flimsy horrible bits of thermal ink paper now.

I was just wondering how the goat got in to the lounge and how it felt about Smirnoff easting its cheeze.

T5 premiere today

So finally it has come to this. My first T5 visit in just over three hours

I'm a lowly silver but from what I gather I am allowed to use Fast Track? I've OLCI and PYOB, but reading Smirnoffs latest story it appears I still need e-ticket receipt?

So coming from HEX which is the best route to Fast Track?
Which one of The Galleries Lounges is closed?

Thanks, looking forward!

Any other FT'er in T5 Galleries today after 5pm? Carry-on has FT tag, I'm 6'2 trimmed dark hair, will be wearing a navy Polo and fast designer jeans Come and say hi!

* yes you can use Fastrack
* No you don't need your receipt, Smirnoff needs it to claim his enormous expenses
* Come out of the lifts, turn right when you reach the main concourse area. Look at the queue at North security. if there is one, walk down to South and use that one.
* Galleries at South are closed, so you might be better off using North Security after all

I can.

You use those extra big staples -- the ones that never quite close properly, so the sharp bits poke out.

That'll teach the bean counting b'stards!

Does anyone have a link to a photo of the stupid tray system? I'd love to see what it looks like, never having been to T5 yet (or to Glasgow, where I read they also use it).

One slight problem, photography is strictly forbidden at airport security.
