Yes. The reporter told of how a disabled woman had to be helped up the escalators.

Why did they not just have a few token flights from/to T5 today for publicity instead of a full schedule anyway?
When the spotlight was off they could have transferred the rest over once they saw that everything was running smoothly?

Probably because it would have meant more staffing duplication in the LHR system and therefore not conducive to 10%. Or something along those lines...

I doubt this would have thrown up any more problems than the trials that have been running for some time.

To be honest, listening to the news media --> they would have found SOMETHING to complain and moan and whinge about.

I must say, I have found the reporting / commentary all so terribly negative and quite depressing. T5 looks magnificient and I would rather focus on the positive as opposed to the negative.

I cannot wait to see it for myself mid April when HI and I get to fly in and out of it !!!!

Perhaps but the (reported) fact that seven flights have left with no baggage (BBC NEWS 24 1500 - 1530 report) makes better news, is very interesting, is bizarre and is shocking.

That + everything else.

3. Taxied for another 10 minutes to a gate - "there will be a delay of....1 hour () before we can get a BA representative to move the jetway to the aircraft"
4. We actually disembarked via the jetway about 15 minutes later.....to find the door locked, thus we were unable to exit the post jetway holding area

Even the Captain was expressed his disbelief of 3. above!

Look, I know none of the above is exactly a huge deal, but wouldn't you think that they might have been expecting us

Welcome to London and Heathrow T5!
Sounds like a typical MANLHR shuttle pre-T5.... Longer getting off the plane at LHR than the actual flight...

Hopefully you also got the three times round the stack thrill as well before coming in to land!!

And WW quote;

"The opening has gone well and to have this working like this is by any standards an achievement. This is a hundred times better than anything else at Heathrow."

Poor soul.

Well - having seen that the early outbound BA676to Istanbul left 4½ hours late, goodness knows what time the BA680 will leave - it has just moved from 1613 to 1700; I think I'll stay in Istanbul for the weekend, chances are I'll miss the Friday evening event I had planned.

Saves the early start on Monday too - I'll miss out on the bonus miles, but pick up a few Hilton points instead!

amusing report on Sky news just now - not so much the content, but a rather flustered looking Richard Quest in the background waving his arms around.

He was reporting on CNN at 5am this morning from T5, so I guess he's had a long day

well, arrived in TXL in one piece... about 2.5 hours late... at least our flight wasn't cancelled... Not sure about the bags though, since I only had hand luggage.... can't wait for my return flight tomorrow to LHR T5...

I'm afraid that is what many Madrileños say about T4 at Barajas. It is normally said with a sneer.

Of course we have to wait to see what T5 will be like when it has bedded down. But in case you think I am naturally one to make "negative" comments, in the past I have tended to defend LHR more than most people on here. When people said how shocking arriving at T1 must appear to a first-time visitor to London, I responded that I would much rather pass along corridors whose ceilings are falling apart and being patched up and be out with my bags in 25 minutes, than spend an hour and a half hanging round a beautiful airport terminal. I stand by that view.
