I don't know if this has already been discussed but I just found out the gold card holders are guaranteed 1 mileage seat on any flight regardless of availability in revenue or award buckets if they are willing to pay double mileage.
Of course if you are looking for F seats to SIN it is a lot of mileage to spend but it doesnt seem so bad during MIPIM when you need to get NCE to LHR last minute!

Great idea...well done BA!!!!!
Never heard of this. Where did you find it out from ??
I first heard about it on another thread a few days ago and there was a reference to some other not well publicised new "real" benefits for Golds. Does anyone have the full list?

For now, this (plus the recent removal of all fees for Golds except the offline booking fee) are the current/live ones. It is not set in stone yet and is currently on trial, hence (I think) a lack of a public fanfare or full EC revamp/news launch yet to date.
All credit to BA and the EC for gradually introducing genuine enhancements (I understand more are in the pipeline) to the benefits (for Gold especially) over the past year or so This is a great idea and I think will be welcomed by many. I hope it remains after the trial period (same goes for the waived fees which had wiggle-room wording when announced on the 'My News' page IIRC to suggest it may not be forever).

It is meant to convert to a reward bucket, not book in to a revenue bucket.

I was offered this "double miles" option while trying to figure out award options with an agent on the Gold line the other day. Apparently they will initially book it in a revenue class, and then get it converted to an award class. So it shouldn't credit as a rev booking would.
Also, IIRC, she mentioned that the booking must be made atleast 30 days before date of travel.

Whilst slightly OT...... FWIW, QF looks like introducing a similar scheme in March (or so the rumour mill says) although this looks likely to be made available to all punters. I just can't get my head around shelling out 768,000 QF miles for a F award LHR-MEL/SYD.
Wow! This is a real thumbs up. I won't be planning on using it of course but it's great for any last(ish) minute trips. LH have something similar in place also so I guess BA is following the trend.
I also wasn't aware of fee removal for Golds- if that's the case then it's great news indeed.
