You could not make this up
The other half flew into LGW North this evening and heard this announcement while waiting for hold bags to appear on the carousel for passengers on BA 2885 from ALG. Not what you would want to heard after your flight arrives 50 mins late.
"This is an announcement for passengers arriving from Algiers. We are terribly sorry to inform you that we have found a cockroach investation in the luggage hold of the aircraft. As we have to fumigate the hold first, there will be a delay of about an hour before your bags arrive on the carousel"
Are BAA thinking up of new excuses to account for the lack of loading staff?
That would be the good news.
Just think
- late out of the airport
- bags and potential clothes stinking of pesticide
- the odd dead cockroach in soft bags that were not zipped up fully
- the hope that the investation was restricted to the luggage hold or your deli bag might result in deli belly
For other pax not arriving from Algiers - rolling about with laughter
How was there an infestation to begin with? Did somebody pack thousands of them into a bag that was then opened somehow? Or did all the cockroaches in Algiers race to the London flight without ground staff notcing?

Perhaps there were some US Airways Elites trying to connect through LGW to PHL on the cheap?
