Houston flights cancelled Friday & Saturday...
We are aware of Hurricane Rita which is currently close to the coast in the South East United States. The track of the hurricane is being closely monitored.
Hurricane Rita is gaining strength and is becoming a Category 5 storm with sustained winds of 165mph.
Due to the forcast path of the Hurricane, the following changes to our services will take place:
BA2025/23September London Gatwick- Houston- now cancelled
BA2024/23September Houston-London Gatwick- now cancelled
BA295/23September London Heathrow-Chicago-Houston will now terminate at Chicago
BA294/23September Houston-Chicago-London Heathrow- Houston to Chicago sector cancelled
BA2027/23September London Gatwick-Houston now cancelled
BA2026/24September Houston-London Gatwick- now cancelled
Quick question re the commercial policy they put in place for rebooking passengers - is that based on seats being available in the ticketed cabin, or the ticketed class?

A policy has been put in place outlining the booking change options available to you if you are affected by flight disruption.
This policy relates to flights operated by British Airways (mainline) and British Airways CitiExpress Ltd ('British Airways' flights), and to flights operated under a BA flight number by GB Airways Ltd, Sun-Air of Scandinavia A/S, Loganair Ltd and BMED ('BA franchise flights').
It does not relate to flights operated under a BA flight number by Comair Pty Ltd. Booking change options following disruption to these services will be advised seperately.
It applies to any passenger who holds a booking on:
a cancelled British Airways or BA franchise flight
a British Airways or BA franchise longhaul (intercontinental*) flight which has been delayed for over 4 hours
a British Airways or BA franchise shorthaul (European or domestic) flight which has been delayed for over 2 hours
You can choose one of the three options set out immediately below.
1. If you wish to travel to your original destination,
you may re-book on another British Airways or BA franchise flight at your convenience, subject to availability.
Conditions
The change in booking must take place no later than two weeks after the original flight.
Travel must be completed within ticket validity or within three months from the original flight, whichever is longer.
The return flight, if applicable, can be re-booked at the same time, and no extra fare is payable.
2. If you choose not to travel to your original destination,
you may re-book on a British Airways or BA franchise flight to an alternative destination, subject to availability, with any additional fare to be paid by you.
Conditions
The change in booking must take place no later than two weeks after the original flight.
Where the new fare is lower, the difference will be refunded.
Travel will be governed by the fare rules applicable to the new booking.
The return flight, if applicable, can be re-booked at the same time.
3. If neither of the above options are acceptable to you,
you may claim a refund of the original British Airways or BA Franchise flight, plus any parts of the journey not made which are on the same ticket as the original flight.
Conditions
The refund will be credited to the original form of payment
To discuss or apply any of these options please contact British Airways, the relevant BA franchise operator or your travel agent, whichever issued your original documents.
Click here for contact details of British Airways offices around the world.
If your flight has been disrupted and you have already arrived at the airport, please proceed to check-in or visit the British Airways ticket desk.
*Intercontinental flights are those offering FIRST, Club World, World Traveller Plus and/or World Traveller travel classes
interestingly, it's letting me book a flight departing 3 hours from now for their lowest fare of £160 o.w. +tax. No last-minute surcharges for going into a hurricane I guess.

Yes, I was surprised to see todays flight scheduled to leave (according to BAA's website) amongst a raft of cancellations and delays due to the morning fog.
However, the hurricane must be passing or yet to arrive or already be to the west of Houston otherwise the flight simply wouldn't leave otherwise a diversion to DFW would have to occur.
__________________ Thanks BA for LHR to LAS VEGAS!!
The hurricane isn't expected to make landfall until early Saturday. Even CO is still waiting to make a decision on their flight situation until later Thursday. So today's flight can get in and leave with those who booked or were able to move bookings forwards (though according to KVS, if you've not done so now, you're stuck as they looked zeroed out in all classes right now).
I think the point is - as stated by LHR Tim - they're sold out on the return flights tonight (probably only been selling full F/J/Y for the last few days too...)

If you're in Houston and slated to fly out, don't muck about. Local radio is reporting that, in addition to the freeways jammed with evacuation traffic, getting through IAH is a bit hampered today by the failure of most of the TSA security screeners to report for duty. Count on long lines at the checkpoints. The mayor is reported to be hopping mad.
