Ex EU : Luggage Check-in? [on flight2 in sequence]

Hi

Is it possible on an Ex-Eu to check luggage in at the start of Flight2 in the sequence [Departing UK], i,e, not checking any in for Flight1 [Departing EU to UK], or must luggage be checked in on Flight1 if it needs to be on Flight2?

Thanks

You can always check bags in mid journey, subject to your checked baggage allowance. You can even do it airside (Flight Connections or at Customer Service by gate 13 in T5). You can generally check in bags for segment2 before segment1 has started, but it can't be totally relied upon.

Just leave plenty of time between the arrival of your EU-LHR flight and the LHR-XXX one to clear immigration, collect your bags (I'm assumng from left luggage) and then check it in before the bad drop deadline.

BE careful with this - If you are trying to check in luggage for flight 2 before you take flight 1, then FLY blocks you at every turn. I spend nearly an hour at first class check-in with my last exEU trying to do this - and 'computer said No' ...this was from both the check in person, her manager, and the FLY support person on the phone. Fly wouldnt allow her to check in my bag because i hadnt flown the first leg of the trip yet.

A 'more experienced' CS person was eventually found who i think used the old check-in systems to resolve the issue. This was a couple of months ago and i'm not even sure if the old system is still available.

(our situation only arose because BA cancelled the earlier bergen flight, which we were originally booked on, and moved us to the later flight meaning our transit/stopover time at LHR was too short to store luggage, exit airside to collect and check-in as CWS has suggested)

i've done it same day, following from the advice at the time from C-W-S, unfortunately they would not let me check in for segment on before i flew segment 1, she was trying her hardest but FLY wouldn't let her. This was when i was a rust though.

So i dropped my bags off at left luggage, came back a few hours later, checked them on and back though security, with no issues

Strikes me you are asking for trouble with this unless there is a very big gap between your first EU flight and the long haul flight.

What would you do if the first flight is delayed and you are escorted straight through to the LH flight? I doubt "I need to go airside to retrieve luggage" will cut it and even if you did, check in would have long since closed. Whether BA would rebook you is debatable and depending on the route that might not even be possible.

My advice would be either go HBO or if like me that isn't an option, take your luggage with you and perhaps take full advantage of your starting point by getting there the day before.

OP has an overnight stop at LHR. I can't see they're likely to run into delays that would cause them to be escorted through to the next flight.

That's bad news that you can't checkin your bag before first segment now. I used to checkin my bag in the morning, doing back to back and then long haul flight.

Luckily my next ex-EU has a break between the flights so I'm doing AMS back to back and next day flight to LAX.
