C-W-S: Thank you for such a thorough and informative guide to the new setup at LGW S. As a lurker, and not a big contributor to FT, I for one am grateful for all the interesting information you share. Especially when I am headed on BA to Barbados next week and will get to sample the delights of the new BA setup at the airline's new Gatwick base.

However, there are two things that jar with me. I'm afraid I have had a glass of Pinot Noir and the pedant in me must speak.

1. In post #1, you show BA's advertising boards. All of us know that there is un accent circonflexe missing from their French advert. It should read: pouvez-vous m'aider avec mes bagages s'il vous plat ? Though to be fair, the writer has observed the obligatory space before the question mark or point d'interrogation.

2. Again, in post #1, the different blues used by BA in their signage would make the most ardent branding specialist weep. Which is it BA?

Still, clearly these are first world problems, and I look forward very much to my visit to LGW S next week.

Thanks again for all you share with us less savvy travellers.

Many thanks for the kind words, seanyjmuc. There's not much I can do about BA's choice of advertisers or painters unfortunately, but there is at least one BA advertisement is in Mauritian Creole, so good luck with that one!

But I was under the impression that Gatwick thought itself to be a serious airport? Don't they also want another runway?

And yet they cannot even handle domestic passengers correctly?

Post 1 indicates that MCT between INT/DOM at LGW is 1 hour 15. Has this always been the case, or at least a fairly recent change? Reading elsewhere somebody claims that this just changed yesterday (although post 1 was last edited at the start of the month nth so clearly hasn't just changed!)

Given that South is a new operation it probably hasn't had much visibility but I did a NQY a year ago and my recollection is that was 1 hour 15 minutes from DUB. But I haven't changed the thread recently.

Thanks CWS I suspect they have been misinformed and it is a flight time that has changed resulting in dropping below MCT.

Since everyone enjoys a big old dump of data: read from the top until you find a matching rule.

Note that for north-north, in general the rule was 1 hour; in the south it's 1 hour 15. Probably the buses and the lack of any facilities to handle domestic arrivals.

(For those for some reason who don't remember off the top of their heads,

The range BA 2046-BA 2060 is used for codeshares on VY.
The range BA 2070-BA 2149 is used for codeshares on EI.
The range BA 2240-BA 2249 is used for codeshares on BT.
The range BA 2769-BA 2778 is used for BA mainline flights between LGW-JER. Probably they are explicitly listed because whether they are domestic or international seems to be a source of confusion for the airline systems.
The range BA 5900-BA 5999 is used for codeshares on EI.
The range BA 6100-BA 6109 is also used for codeshares on EI.
The range BA 6110-BA 6119 is used for codeshares on BE (the NYQ services only),
The range BA 6120-BA 6165 is used for codeshares on EI.
The range BA 6166-BA 6199 is used for codeshares on QR.
The range BA 7040-BA 7049 was used for codeshares on IG.
The range BA 7284-BA 7289 is used for codeshares on IB (operated by I2).
The range BA 8040-BA 8199 is used for codesahres on VY.)

How far in advance can you check in at Gatwick? I'm trying to beat the peak traffic so I will likely be at the airport 4 hours before the flight. Travelling Club World and BA Silver if that makes a difference.

You can check-in any time on the day of travel, it's normally 3 hours before but anyone with lounge access can check-in on the day anytime. Check-in opening varies a bit by day of the week and time of the year, but you can use 03:30 as a guide there, though the lounges won't be open at that unGodly hour.

Those without status can only check in a maximum of three hours before, though there's no need to be at LGW that early.

There is, however, one LGW special option, also shared with EDI: you can check in the day before too, between 16:00 hrs and 20:00 hrs. More useful for those staying in the hotels before an early flight, but nevertheless it is open to all. I wouldn't leave it to the last stroke of 20:00 hrs, however, since occasionally the last flight out of LGW means they can close up a bit sooner

Sorry if this has already been mentioned but BA have switched thto CW/CW and F desks around.

in January the F desks were to the left of the screened off area but now they are to the right.

Morning! I've read the original post re connections & MCT. I have an incoming to LGW from JER and 1.25hr before international to TPA (all one ticket). My question is, as this is a bus to terminal I will then need to go landside and re-enter airside will I break the 1 hour rule which is in MMB :

From 4 April 2017, check-in for all long haul flights at London Gatwick will close one hour before departure (changing from 45 minutes before departure). If you're travelling on a long haul flight from London Gatwick, you need to check in at least 60 minutes before your flight departs

Is there no flights connections within South Terminal at all?

For domestic to international there isn't a Flight Connection route, it's purely international to international in the South terminal. And yes it's a bus, then landside, then main security. It's much more compact than North so it shouldn't take any longer.. But the one hour or rather 45 minute rule for check-in applies at JER if on one ticket. That's your check-in place, and you should get all boarding passes there. You are just in transit at LGW.

Ahhh thanks for the clarification. I am B2Bing in JER so a rather stressful morning! Thanks c-w-s I think I'll only get fleeting visits to the new lounges (if at all!)

When I re-enter LGW I just go straight to Fast Track with boarding pass and will be compliant (even if under an hour?)

Yes, there isn't conformance there so you will get through even if you are late. BA staff also meet late arriving connections too
