Rimowa? As a BAEC Gold, am I required to spend insane amounts of money on luggage to retain a small semblance of credibility? Or am I permitted to continue using Antler/Samsonite, on the premise that it will be bashed/broken/lost anyway ... regardless of cost?

We have always regarded luggage as 'disposable items', along with their contents. It tends to minimise stress.

Madam's carry-on is of that ilk, although probably $15 in Marshalls in the USA

If you've ever tried to figure out the street addresses in some parts of London, this is an understandable response upon boarding an aircraft. As I recall, the street numbers in Rathbone Place (for example) march down one side of the street and then turn around and head back the other side.

ideal if youre five foot or like a bad back.. I have nothing against cheap disposable type bags but the handles are just too short for me .Probably made in china for chinese sized people which wont cut the mustard if youre six foot.

I too don't spend a lot of money on suitcases and prefer to use it to buy more important things, like wine.

For me the 12 quid IKEA foldaway just works and I just spend the remaining £23 on wine and cheeses. No Alan key required.

So they are not as robust as they make out!

We have B&R carry-ons, great little bags actually.

I like to think that the handlers at LHR view B&R as a challenge

Warren Buffet who is as I recall the third or fourth richest man in the world only ever buys second hand cars which to me seems very sensible. Spend your money on what's important to you, only the vacuous worry about being seen with what they think is the "right" items.
