Only one change on the booking?

This morning's LHR-LBA (Leeds Bradford) was cancelled due to weather conditions, so I took the train instead. On the way back, I wanted to take the earlier flight, but the agent said that I could only have the refund (of the cancelled leg or the whole booking) or the reschedule to the earlier flight, but not both.

I was quite perplexed to hear that, why would they not allow both the refund of the cancelled leg and the reschedule on the inbound flight if I specifically booked the fare that allows me to reschedule the inbound on the day free of charge?

Thank you in advance.

Nonsense. Call back... (assuming you're changing on the day for the same day)

Thanks, it is for the return today. I ended up cancelling the whole thing and will just take the train back, but good to know for the future. The agent was adamant that this is the policy and I had no previous experience to reason otherwise.

Weather where? Weather has been fine today (yesterday was very foggy in the morning).

I assume the cancellation code "WEAN" refers to weather but I can't see any at LBA which would result in flight cancellations.

It was foggy/hazy late last night/early this morning in the Heathrow/West London area. Here is the flight that was cancelled that I was due to be on:

The return BA1341 from Leeds was also, obviously, cancelled.

Yes, you need to watch this policy very carefully.

The usual rule is only one "involuntary change" for an inflexible booking, and in some situations its best to sit out a travel difficulty for a few hours to see what happens. However in this case it sounds like you had a Plus fare (?) and so on the day changes should be allowed, and it looks to me that the agent spoke about the change policy without realising the flexibility of the Plus fare, assuming this conversation was had on the day of the inbound travel. I guess it's also possible that the flight was reissued and lost some information in the process, perhaps.

Thanks CWS. Yes, for these "there and back on the same day" I always book the Plus fare that allows me the possibility to jump onto an earlier flight, if one is available. I pressed the agent, but she would not budge, so I took the "less hassle" avenue. Next time, I will ask to speak to the supervisor if I get the same response.

I would complain to BA in this instance. Not seeking compensation but in the faint hope that some kind of action might be taken.

It's autumn - probably the wrong type of leaves on the runway
