BA computer system down worldwide?

Sat in the lounge at IAD awaiting flight to LHR tonight and just had an announcement that the BA computer system is down worldwide so they've had to go over to manual check-in which will now take considerably longer.
We'll see what happens.

Waiting in line for checkin at SJC and it's down here as well. Club line is long and world traveler is even longer- looks like we'll be delayed

At least we've already checked in and dropped baggage.

Is there some kind of a weird travel backbone that has gone down?

IHG front end is working but when I try to make a booking, it fails. It has been that way for a couple of hours now.

I am not saying they could be related but I guess it's not entirely impossible?

Tehran (IKA) seems to have an issue too, so I'm checked in online with seq 001, but locally I have seq 065. My seat, locally, showed my original seat, rather than the one I selected after OLCI (easily corrected).

Sat at SFO waiting on an "indefinite delay". Glad I checked in on the app last night. Upside is, since they can't check anybody in, the lounge is the emptiest I've ever seen it.

Glad my important meetings are not until Wednesday and Thursday.

Update: new target of 10pm, three hour delay.

Just had the captain and first officer come and have a chat in the lounge apologising for the delay and explaining that theres probably still nearly 100 people to check in manually and that takes time. But once thats achieved then the plane can fly as its not reliant on the computer systems being up.

I'm sure BA do Holiday Inn bookings on the side! Nice little earner!

It's made the news on CNN's website. Haven't seen it reported elsewhere as of yet.

Received a generic travel notification from the corporate travel agent sent out worldwide. Normally these notifications are around natural disasters, terrorist attacks, traveler risks etc.

Today's BA 84 (YVR-LHR) looks to be delayed 9.5 hrs (according to Flightradar24, not sure of accuracy). BA.com showing 2 hr delay so far.

Many news outlets picking up the story

I assume EC261 compensation would apply if your delay meets the thresholds?
