I admire the sentiment - Very amusing.

Truth is that this is just the most recent in a long list of IT shambles from BA in the last year and a bit.

To add to the long list of IT shambles that occurred for years before that...

Indeed ... by no means a fan of outsourcing per se, but this all strikes me as a red herring. If you treat outsourcing as an excuse to cut costs at all costs with no management of what is going on, then you are likely to get predictably poor results. But it needn't be that way. By the same token, internal IT can become an inefficient, out of date and institutionalised behemoth that manages to do nothing of any worth. And again it needn't be that way.

The problem isn't with who writes your paycheck as an abstract entity. It's with who the actual managers are.

That said, I am in the bucket of "if you're not breaking it you're not doing it right". Even accepting that what seems to be going on with the site right now is messy to say the least.

Capin - IT outsourcing is nothing new at BA, apparently, they used to have a managed service contract with an American IT services company which used be based on site at LHR at the top of the multi-storey carpark at the Engineering base.

That I don't know, I got this from an IT consultant friend of mine.

Are/were you from EDS?

Before EDS were at the top of TBC, BA used the space themselves of course. I don't know the floors myself, but Reservations also used to be in TBC at one point.

This most recent outage while obviously affecting BA.com, also seemed to affect the Res centres in other ways too - I actually called in the day BA.com was down, and got the Avios call centre in MAN (not MAN Customer Contact but Avios MAN), but the agent couldn't open my PNR due to the outage.

Seems a pretty reasonable reason to bump the thread. The OP predicted the outsourcing would lead to a major iT meltdown and that's what's happening at present.

But he/she does it anytime anything IT related goes wrong. It's not like BA didn't have any issues before the outsourcing.

Hahaha, why did I know this topic would make an appearance today?

Out of interest, do you know what has caused the current outage, other than what you imply in the OP?
