Delayed BA0549- sitting in a hot cabin

Hi guys,

So we have all boarded and are sitting in a hot cabin as the APU is not working. The captain has asked ground to connect to an Aux however when it finally arrived it's battery was dead. Now ground are trying to source a new battery.

Departure time was 13:15. It's now 13:45

Iam on RFS booking, when or if does the EU261 come into play?
If it does, what sort of pictures, time stamps should I do?

Thanks!

Have a look at this thread if you want - http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/briti...61-2004-a.html

With a 30 min delay, you're nowhere near EU261 yet...

EU 261 kicks on based on the difference between scheduled and actual time of arrival NOT departure

On a flight from FCO it is 2 hours before compensation is due.

That's not what the guide to EU compensation that stu1985 linked to says

Point 5 - usefully states that FCO is 1446KM so Band 1

Point 11.1 says 2 hours with a handy green star with €250 in it for > 2 hours

You have to smile. If compensation was paid for every 33 minute late departure I'd experienced, I'd be very, very wealthy

With an expected 30 minutes departure delay you are in for the big jackpot! You will be very wealthy very soon.

I was sure that the flight needs to be 3 hours late for delay compensation to apply. Cancellations are a different matter.

Go and look at the compensation thread again, for flights under 1500km the threshold is 2 hours; €250.

Thanks guys for all the info. We managed to have only a flight time of 2hrs however once at Heathrow the usual stack formation/ holding pattern occurred with a 15minute delay. Once one the ground another 15min wait as the gate we had originally been assigned was given to another aircraft.

Whilst all of this was going on, around half the flight had connections to JFK, LAX, Chicago and a few others. Flight connections were informed and to their credit and BA cabin crew all passengers were taken care of. Only criticism to note, no announcement was made to let these passengers off first. Instead a scramble occurred!

The captain made plenty of announcements, to help keep things calm! amongst all my flights this is the first captain who has truly kept us passengers informed. At one point once on the ground at FCO, he announced there were around 10 other aircraft in front of us so we would be waiting around 15 minutes, this after the who hoopla of a filed APU, warm cabin.

Once it came to our turn to take off, I noticed an 747 air Thai in front of us preparing to roll, this lead to another 5 min wait to ensure enough of a wake turbulence gap was left.

Sadly a couple with elderly parents missed their LA flight and were given hotel accommodation.

Overall a very looong flight with crew doing a tremendous job!

P.s Flight connections were waiting for all the passengers at the gate, for once it seemed ground crew were well prepared!
