Planning an Ex EU over Christmas / New Year
I'm currently looking into an Ex EU over Christmas and New Year.
My routing would be as follows:
DUB-LHR-JFK-LAX-LAS
then a few days later
LAS-PHX-IAH
in order to spend Christmas in IAH, followed by
IAH-LHR-DUB after New Years.
This prices to 1540, with a combination of CE, AA Transatlantic J on the 777-300, AA Transcontinental J on the A321, AA Domestic F, US Domestic F, BA CW on the 744.
I can swap the JFK-LAX-LAS legs for a direct JFK-LAX flight in AA Domestic F which would give more TP than routing via LAX, although it would be on the B738.
Is the fare quoted a typical ex EU fare given the routing? Would it be much cheaper in an I class sale?
Finally, my credit card that I would use to make the booking expires in June. I usually follow the banks advice to cut up the card when the replacement arrives. Would this be an issue?

The fare looks about right (& extra points for getting the LAX-IAH leg included).
However
1) Bad weather and full flights make for a lousy combination at that time of year. Why not just keep heading West from Dublin, rather than coming back to London?
2) The same applies for a transit through NYC at that time of year. Mis-connect and you'll be in seat 20E.
3) The last few years, BA has run a J class sale ex-LHR over Christmas. Fares around 1000

Hi,
ex-EU ;
A FT abbreviation for starting a long haul flight from continental europe (ie Belgium -London- USA) and not the UK.
Regards

ex-EU is the term given to a route that starts in the "EU" but not in the UK, and probably loops back through the UK. It can save 60% on a business class fare, offsetting the cost of getting to the starting point.
Note the "EU" term is loose - Norway, Switzerland & Jersey are all fair game.

Currently for an Economy flight from GLA, I am looking at around 1000, jumping to 1200 if I took the GLA-EWR option on UA.

Am surprised at that - normally cutting out LHR lops 100 and 4hrs off the journey!
It's a learning curve, i'll give you that. If you like the Telegraph crossword, you might want to give the thread on dumping fuel surcharges a go
