I have tried one of the new ET exit row seats, they are rock hard. CE row 2 not as good as CE row 1 in leg room but at least the seat is softer.

Had a self-upgrader on a flight to JFK a few weeks ago. I was in 64A and soon someone comes upstairs with a rucksack and plonks himself into 64B. Within 15 seconds CC wishes him a good afternoon and 'could I please see your boarding pass?' "Sir this is for our economy cabin on the ground floor of this aircraft; let me escort you there please..."

hear, hear. On my last SAS flight, I was rather amused by the fact I had one of the exit rows to myself, whereas 5 of the 6 "J" rows were fully occupied - midseat included. How do I know, you may ask? Because SAS have neither dividers nor a curtain between the cabins!

Aren't they're exactly the same seats.

That sounds pretty grim for the cabin crew! What do they get to eat in the end!?

I was on BA768 (should have been on 764) on the day of the BA762 incident in May 2013. BA768 was the first flight to OSL that day and consequently there were a few dozen people who had been on BA762 on the flight.

I was in CE in a window seat and the aisle seat next to me was vacant. After the seatbelt lights went off a woman walked through the curtain and sat down next to me and said she couldn't sit where she was in EY because the person next to her was getting nervous and they were in an exit row. That in turn was making her nervous.

It turned out after a few minutes chatting that she had been on BA762 and she showed me the pictures she'd taken from her window seat right next to the engine fire! The member of CC did ask her why she was sitting there, she explained and he allowed her to stay put serving her the whole CE service including multiple champagnes.

She got more drunk and loud as the flight went on and I am sure most people in CE were fully up to speed with her experiences that day by the time we flew over Kristiansand and then started our descent.

Personally I wasn't bothered that she'd walked into CE but I was fairly sure that the 'nervous person next to her in ET' was a slight exaggeration and she just fancied an upgrade. She certainly showed no sign if nerves tucking into her alcohol and dinner while showing pictures, sharing her story and asking how much compensation she should seek for her trauma!!

Not exactly that but...

On a 241 flight with Mrs Onaswan and our 2 children, we had the adults booked in F and the children in WT+. Now, before we get off subject, there was method in my seemingly madness - it was a mid J 744 so the children were only a curtain away BUT, the point I am making: as we boarded, turning left into WT+ our young daughter, knowing that we (the adults) were in F said, "Wow this is amazing, but where are we sitting?" After the laughter died down, we positioned the children in what was "wow" for them and took our seats a row or two in front.

I was nearly accused of self-upgrading the first time I was op-uped from WT+ to CW.

I was given a first class seat on a US airline whist travelling on a staff ticket.

Shortly before take off the gate agent came on board, knelt besides me and discreetly told me that they had a last minute revenue passenger so I'd need to move. She went on to say that unfortunately there was no availability in J so I'd need to move back to Y.

The entire cabin watched as the flight attendant took back my glass of champagne and I retrieved my carry on from the overhead.

I made the walk of shame to the back of the plane convinced that everyone would have thought that I was a self upgrader.

Indeed.

Travelling between OSL and LHR at least once a month I prefer BA by far.

But once checking out (never again, mind you) SAS "plus" because it did fit my travel my schedule on that one occasion certainly put me back on the BA bandwagon.

In short: SAS "plus" is nothing but a no-frills/Easyjet B737 where the one and only extra is not having to pull out your credit card for your order of the same stuff that's offered in economy class (ie about 5-8 GBP worth of "free" drink/food)

I was on a VS flight MIA-LHR many years ago. Back when the upper deck of the 744 was half Y+ and half J, as soon as the the upper deck looked reasonably full, an older guy got up from the row behind us, casually walked forward into J and plonked himself down in one of the Upper Class suites. He lasted about twenty second before one of the cabin crew (who had clearly watched him from the galley at the rear) stormed up the aisle and escorted him back to his assigned seat.

Moral of the story seems to be "give it a go, worst that will happen is you're sent back, but sometimes you'll get away with it"

Certainly in my experience they are unwilling to even threaten you.

Witnesses this last night on a flight from TXL-LHR. I upgraded to CE at check in and the cabin was a fairly light load but ET packed - the guy in the front row of ET tried to move himself forward twice - once before take off and he was immediately moved and then again straight after the seat belt sign went off - again he was immediately moved and told rather curtly 'sir - these passengers have paid a premium to sit here I can't let you stay' ! Then from behind the curtain I heard him protesting to the crew about why he had to sit in a full row when there was so many vacant seats ahead ! Glad the crew enforced it !
