Is there an archive of previous BA seat maps anywhere ?

Bit of a long shot, but anyone know of a resource which has historical BA seat maps ? I remember seat maps being at the back of the printed BA timetable books, but I don't think these are online.

Specifically, I'm looking for a ca 1991 map of the newly delivered 744s with economy class upstairs.

Before the internet there was a compendium of airline seat plans that was published annually in the US, although I can't recall it's name at the moment. I expect you could obtain a copy through the British Library.

On FT apparently nothing travel-related is a long shot! Just over an hour after your query and you have an answer - impressive stuff. ^

I actually remember doing a BA LHR-DXB flight in WT upstairs in the early 90s.

Thanks origin.

Seeing the 747 seat plan brought back distant memories of the original (I believe) layout of the 747 with the bar on the Upper Deck for BA F passengers, and also Pan Am's 'Restaurant in the Sky' on the Upper Deck for F passengers, with dining reservations taken in advance of the departure date.

And from the same source - for the early 2000s - including that bloody awful 10 across 777 from Gatwick.

How funny. In 1995 I flew to MCO on a 747. I knew we were on the upper deck, but always thought I would have remembered if we'd been in J! I've often wondered if I could confirm.

I live in hope that in a few years time we will be saying something similar about the 9 across torture chamber down the back of a 787 but unfortunately I'm fairy certain BA will be content to let us continue to suffer.

Oh so close, but no cigar, just yet. We've got a 747 with economy upstairs, and a 744 with club world upstairs. Which year's timetable was this ?

I was on a brand-new 744 in Apr 1991 (it was about 2 weeks old, so must have been G-BNLS or G-BNLT) and did SIN-LHR on the upper deck and I'm sure it was economy up there, and that's the map I'm looking for. IIRC, this config didn't last long at all and was soon replaced with nicer seats up top.

As I remember it from the early-mid 90s the LGW based 747-200s had Traveller in the UD whilst the LHR ones had Club. Perhaps it was a 200/100 series difference, but that is how I seem to remember it. I also recall the cumbersome UD emergency exit. I think you had to pull the slide box across from a locker before opening the door?! Imagine how long that would have taken!

All the B747-136 aircraft were based at LHR and had 12 CW seats, the B747-236 both LHR and LGW based aircraft had 30 economy seats.
The two emergency exits were behind the flight deck and not in a seating area of the cabin.
