Just get yourself the cheapest fully refundable economy ticket to a BA destination from T3 (Budapest maybe), and avoid the transits between terminals if you wish to spend some time in T3 with Mrs F1. Then move to T4 later and don't forget to de-board yourself from the BA flight.

I remember a longer transit in SIN with my wife on SQ-SQ flights in economy. I bought us two fully flexible/refundable F tickest SIN-KUL, checked in, went to the lounge, enjoyed it a lot. While in the lounge I called SQ to undo check in, went online and cancelled the tickets, refund received minus a small fee. Still have the BPs :-) this was years ago, not sure if it still works.

Seems like an awful lot of hassle to be honest. Why not just enjoy some alone time?
Personally, I have an issue with this and it's not something that I would do myself. There was a recent story regarding a passenger who did this with Lufthansa. They sued him to recover their costs.

In general you would have trouble doing that at LHR because you cannot leave the departure area without being escorted out by a member of staff (unless you go on a flight). That process can take up to thirty minutes.

In T3 and T4, you can walk out through the 'reverse' of the Flight Connections route.
I am not totally sure on T1 or T2, but the principle is probably the same as T3/4.

Piggybacking on this question, is it OK for me to lounge hop within T5? I will be coming in to LHR at around 05:30 and won't be leaving till around 14:00 on an upcoming trip. Good chance that I will get bored is I stay in one of the lounges; so wondering if I can visit both the North & South lounge?

If you go to T5B and your flight is departing from A you will need to know the location of the walkways to get back as I believe the route isn't signed (it wasn't last time I was in B). I'm on my phone at the moment so can't dig out the link but c-w-s has written a guide. It's worth looking at or alternatively use the walkways to get to T5B (just take the lift one level below the transit trains) and then retrace your steps for the return journey.

I'll piggyback this topic as well. I'm arriving into T5. Have a few hours to kill and need to go to the post office over at T3. Is there a bus that I can take land side to go to T3.

If you are going landside then just take the tube or HEX. You will need an oyster or contactless credit/debit card for the tube, but there is no charge between T5-T123. You cannot buy an oyster card from the ticket machines either at ground level near arrivals or at platform level btw.
