BA awards on AA question

Hi all, I remember reading earlier this when bloggers were running scared about BA revamping award flights. Has BA really changed their award chart? I am looking for an ORD-DTW flight on AA (4500 avios usually), but BA's website routes me via CLT/PHL. Is it still possible to book those short flights for 4500 avios?

Yes, there is no change from what I know.

I just used the Avios calculator.

4500 Ł 0.00 + taxes, fees and carrier charges

But I can't book those online anymore? When I search for ORD-DTW, I don't even see the direct flight...

It was all speculation that BA was about to devalue avios based on IB devaluing theirs. Turned out is was all wrong since IB had not devalued anything. There has been no avios devaluation for BA or IB.

Just checked some random dates for ORD-DTW and there are certainly rewar seats available on ba.com on the American Eagle flights. There may not be reward availability for the date you are after.

What date are you after? If the reward availability has already been taken up for that date for the direct flights then they won't be listed.

Are you finding SAAver seats on your desired date for the ORD-DTW nonstops on aa.com? If not, I would not expect to find any on ba.com.

Are you sure there is availability on the days you are checking? For example, when I search on ba.com for ORD-DTW on 24SEP14, I see coach availability for AA2248 (and F availability for three other flights). When I search aa.com I see the same coach availability for AA2248 (and the same F availability). The bloggers recently were going on about IB's awards (which apparently haven't changed) and extrapolating an imminent change to BAEC. Neither apparently has happened. I suggest you recheck your search.

I was looking in the last week of March 2015, there's no availability. I haven't booked this route in a while, but before there are usually plenty of availability and plenty of award seats. Not to mention ORD-DTW runs a few times a day on AA.

aa.com does not show any milesaaver availability for March 22 - 28, 2015. The problem is not with BAEC. You can check this yourself by searching on aa.com, no sign in is necessary.

Is this because AA does not open up milesaaver availability until X days before, or does milesaaver have blackout dates?

Who knows why the seats aren't available now. AA makes milesaaver seats available when they choose too. Maybe some were available and have been booked maybe they haven't made any available yet. See this from aa.com:
MileSAAver® Awards
Requires the fewest miles to redeem, for as low as 12,500 miles each way. Using a MileSAAver Award is ideal if your travel plans are flexible however MileSAAvers are subject to limitations on seat availability as well as travel embargo dates on some participating airlines.

Are you finding SAAver seats on the nonstops at aa.com for other dates in March? If so, that suggests that AA is currently expecting to sell a lot of seats on those flights during the last week in March. (Is it Spring Break, perhaps?)

Nothing in March is available. There are availability in Feb and April. And way more availability in Sept of this year. I guess I will have to keep checking back.
