Following the excellent POUG thread (Pro-active Online Upgrade (POUG) tracking and discussion 2016 thread) this wikipost is all about fixed price AUP (airport upgrades). AUPs are either offered at check-in at the airport, or (less regularly) in the lounge at the airport upon request. More specifics at the end of this wiki, see below.

How to get a AUP
They are only available on the day of travel from the airport. You cannot ring up for them or arrange it in advance. It is subject to availability of both seats and facilities at the airport concerned.

LHR: If you have lounge access probably the best place to find out in this situation is Galleries Club South lounge, at the customer service desk on the left on entry. (T3 GC equivalent is on the right just past the entrance). It needs a ticket agent, who wear blue name badges, and there is always one on duty there. Sometimes the Flounge / CCR customer service agents are ticketing agents, but that's luck of the draw.

For LGW ask the ticket office at the transit / glass end of zone C. For LCY ask at the customer service desk on the left in the main hall. For most practical purposes, you can't get an AUP once landside in LGW or LCY.

Otherwise you can ask at check-in, they can find out whether it is available and send you to someone else for the ticketing aspects. In T5 you can also check at Zone E since again there is always a ticketing agent on duty there.

For domestic terminals you can also ask at checkin, GLA, EDI and MAN have particular desks for this. For non UK locations, ask at the ticket desk where one exisits, but in many locations there isn't one and you need to ask at the check-in counter. At some locations there is neither a ticket desk nor qualified agents, particularly in Europe, so effectively no AUP is offered at this location. At some locations (YYZ, IAD, JFK) they can be arranged from the lounge.

I think the price is trending up, as I paid £599 for the upgrade to F from LHR to JFK.

Yes. You can ask at any desk really in T5A or B (there is not ticketing/reservations presence in C) anytime before check in closes at -45 mins.

Today (also tomorrow and Saturday,) you'll pay £599.

However, wef 1 February 2015, T5 long haul AUP prices are increasing by £50 for most cabins. New prices will be

WT to WTP will remain £229
WT to Club - £799 (from £749)
WTP to Club - £649 (from £599)
Club to First - £649 (from £599)

Hope this helps

Does anyone have experience doing an AUP on an open jaw multi city booking? Looking to do yyz-man then return lhr-yyz. Not being offered up sell on ticket purchase. Might have to book LHR-MAN as separate ticket.

Yes you can AUP a sector on an open-jaw booking if it is available, have done it plenty of times.

Asked at the gate yesterday (7th Feb) about upgrading SEA-LHR about 3 hours before the flight. Was offered:

WT-WTP 355 USD (accepted)
WT-CW 1090 USD

Apologies if this has already been asked/answered (I couldn't find an answer by searching):

Is it possible to AUP an AA-codeshare BA-operated fight?

Time for a round of Hillierleaks!
These are the AUP rates out of SYD. Needless to say, I politely declined (even they offered to leave me on the 16 i/o of changing to the 12) and now I'm filling up with some good food and wine in the QF Flounge

Feel free to edit those into the wiki as I'm on my mobile and too drunk by now.

I was asked at checkin this morning at DUB (JFK via LHR: BA metal) if I was interested in a promotional upgrade to First. I asked how much it was and the assistant didn't know. A colleague said 'these things are sorted in London'.

Hmmmmm……

CW to F (on A380 both ways)

HKG-LHR HK$13,000 (approx, can't remember exact, did not accept)
LHR-HKG £649 (accepted, but wishing I hadn't)

CW UD window seat from HKG-LHR was wonderful, and the return flight LHR-HKG just reminded me again why it's crazy to pay for BA F when it's really not that much better at all compared to a CW window seat.
