Tesco and Avios
Tesco, the major UK supermarket chain, allows you to convert Tesco Clubcard (CC) points to Avios. The standard earning rate is 1 CC point per 1 spent in store. They convert to Avios in the ratio of 1 CC point to 2.4 Avios or 2.5 Virgin miles. Every quarter, your points are converted to coupons and mailed to you - they can then be converted via the CC website to Avios or Virgin miles. Typically, it takes 1-2 working days for a conversion to BA Avios to complete.

The key to rapidly earning large amounts of Avios is the regular bonus point offers where large amounts of points can be earned. The latest are listed below and discussed within this thread.

The last period for collecting Clubcard points finished on 16 October 2014.

The last day for collecting points in the current quarter is 21 January 2015
.

Topcashback (TCB)

Uniquely amongst such sites, TCB allows up to 50 of cashback per year to be withdrawn to your Tesco Clubcard account, which could then be transferred to 12,000 Avios. As of the middle of May, most cashback can also be transferred directly to your Avios account 1p=1 Avios. http://www.topcashback.co.uk/

Same can be said for the Hastings extra: about 10 pallets of magazines, and at least 4 juicy full pegs of 3Vs

Do the 4 off 30 etc vouchers work with any clubcard, or only that of the person they were sent to?

The staff had to manually override the price though it didn't automatically go down to 16. And for some reason, the staff I came across, including the supervisor, were unaware of this promotion.
Since when has that store had 3Vs? Never seen any in the past 3 years... also I tried this promotion last year, and the price was reduced automatically though only after the till had activated the card, i.e. they went through at 20 initially. And just like you experienced, the checkout lady was surprised when she saw the price go down - thought there was an error and got a supervisor to confirm (who I had to direct to the poster at the gift card area...)

We don't rifle through them we grab a handful and leg it out the store. Get your facts right.

That's because I'm a 6 minute drive from there and know a few of the managers. Sorry.

I've been out of the Tesco loop for a while but it looks like the 3V cards are back in demand on here. I took full advantage of last year's opportunity but thought their attraction had completely disappeared since then.

Would somebody be kind enough to take the time to summarise why they're suddenly back in vogue?

With my 800 Avios for 250 CC points conversion that's 1,856 Avios + 80 to spend at Pizza Express for 64! I tried it last night and used 6x100 Avios vouchers with a mix of 20/25 (pre discount) gift cards in one transaction. They show on the receipt at the full value, with a discount at the bottom. YMMV.

Good luck!
