Work are paying but it's my business

I already have JFK-LAX-JFK around existing commitments in Los Angeles and New York. I can squeeze in SFO from LAX of course. I need to hit most of the other cities at some point during the rest of the trip.

NYC is a natural hub for me to do this, as I have a place to sleep and leave stuff, so can do day and overnight trips on hand luggage from there, extensive AA/US network, 3 airports to depart from...

The question is whether there are any crafty routings and good value fares to eke out the extra TPs I need, without breaking the bank. In the past I did cheeky doglegs via ATL and such.

If not, I usually just burn Avios on my US domestics, as the redemption rate, availability and $2.50 tax/fee are superb. With OWE and TSA Pre, I don't need any of the benefits of AA First - not even the seat really, if it's a short flight and I have an exit row (and a lot of the time it's one-cabin service anyway).

Bit of a long reply but you asked for it - that's my BAEC life story so far as it currently stands.
What a story, I see the counselling is going well! Wozza2404 certainly opended a can of worms there. I find that upping the dosage helps btw.

All I can think about now is filling chris1979's inner void!

Interesting. Thanks for the explaination.

I'm a bit different in that I do fly quite a lot. Mostly in long haul J through work, which allows me to generally upgrade to F a few days before using Avios and therefore the CCR card doesn't particularly interest me. When travelling with my family there are 4 of us so even with a CCR card it would still only get us into GF (one GGL and one GCH) as my guesting prvilieges for the CCR wouldn't cover us. As such, I covet GGL much more than the CCR card.

I had a similar situation where I was only 1k TPs shy of 5k last year, and could have made a run, but I figured with the uncertainty of travel in my industry it was better to stop flying at 4k, and push all my upcoming trips into my new TP year. That way I'll hit GGL by January (my year starts in August), and I'll have 20 months of GGL status; ample time to play those Jokers.

I've never done a 100% TP run, but I will play with routings to maximise TPs. I'm also flexible with most of my work trip dates and so I can use "good TP fares" for work trips quite often (in fact I've just bought one of the Ł740 BKK-DOH-DWC returns for a work trip).

Anyway, was just curious about people's reasoning behind it all.

ha!

I was just answering the question with clearly some time to hand to answer it (someone at work today quoted Churchill today (apparently) in saying "I apologise for the length of this letter but I do not have the time to write a shorter one".

Yes, upping the dosage helps. Thank BA for Lifetime status!

equally interesting. I do not have a family which means I probably have more time to spend on planes (plus am spending less Łs on nappies than some of my friends) and guesting isn't usually an issue either. Someone I know who travels A LOT with work has just started to fly via Eastcoast when he needs to be on the Westcoast to bag the extra 210 TPs after I explained it all to him.

I equally could have / should have deferred additional runs into the next membership year and earn GGL over 2 years but the addict in me wants it NOW so going for CCR (and thus instant GGL) was more appealing than having to wait (can you imagine) until I hit 3,000 in the next year (even if a run or two early on could have achieved that). (As said though, am tempted to swap to that tactic for Project "CCR 2016" rather than be in an annual "race to CCR".

In case anyone is wondering whether US is still posting full Y TPs, I did SEA-CLT-TPA r/t over the long weekend. SEA-CLT and CLT-TPA in discount US Y both posted as full Y (70+20).

Your explanation resonates with me, and I'm sure many others on here. "It's all in the game", as Omar Little said.

It's funny, when I explained an immediate turnaround TP run to a colleague she asked me "What are you running from?". I still can't answer that...

It was Ł2,100pp for that routing - fare ends 31 March 2015 IIRC.

chris1979 looked like a lot of dates for HNL-BZE HNL-GCM
I looked at others like PTY and a couple of other places I wouldnt want to go to on my own, if you are plotting a quick flit in this direction, let me know if you want a travel companion!

PSA: US Discounted Economy no longer earning any Tier Points

Considering "Economy (discounted)" is no longer a valid option for US Airways on the BA Avios/TP calculator, I decided to call BAEC and ask about it. According to the phone rep I got, flying in US discounted economy no longer earns you any Tier Points at all. The rep thought once the brand change to American was complete, that would probably change again, but didn't know anything more specific.

So, just a heads-up for those who had planned to exploit full fare TP's for US discounted economy: The bonanza is over.

... Why oh why did you do that?

BA thinks (until someone flags this for review now that OWBA has brought the matter to their attention) that "Full fare" currently includes: B, E, G, H, K, L, M, N, Q, R, S, T, U, V, W, Y—i.e., every economy fare bucket available for public sale.

If you read up 4 posts, you'll find that that is not the case.

Might be related to when you bought the tickets? They were saying the change was a very recent thing.

Would be nice to be wrong about this one. SEA-CLT-ATL return was 180 TP at 1.57Ł/TP if that's still available.
