LHR-IAD worth upgrading UuA WTP to CW?

A rare event - UuA upgrade space from WTP to CW opens up on one of my flights. LHR-IAD on 777. Is it worth the Avios (& tax) for a short TATL day flight?

Would you vote:

a) Grab it because UuA space doesn't open up often for TATL

OR

b) WTP is fine, save the Avios in case UuA opens up on upcoming longer trips &/or night flights?

Unless you have very few avios and want to save them for the return, I would definately go for it.

Is there any other way to travel?

Incidentally, UuA space to IAD has never been a problem for us over the last 5 years on the IAD run (that's booking 6-9 months ahead, though). Except if you have to travel at/around weekends ... Tue-Thu is usually easy.

Really depends on what you want out of a flight and how many avios you have already and if you're saving up for a longer flight.

I'd do it. More relaxing flight, better seat and an all round more pleasant experience. Having said that, WTP is generally fine for a day time flight too unless you get stuck in middle seats of a full cabin and then it does feel cramped.

I'd do that in a heartbeat. But then I have avios coming out of my wazoo, and the last thing I want to do is fly more in my precious free time.

I reckon that it is always worthwhile UUAing to CW.

Thanks all. Nice consensus emerging. I won't run out of Avios doing this and several other flights (if space opens), but equally I don't have the millions of Avios that some here have.

In a heartbeat. I wouldn't fly WT+ unless there was no other choice and if you have the avois it's a no brainer IMHO. There is of course a small surcharge for the CW fuel tax/surcharge about $200-250 but that's worth it IMHO

Hahahahaha ... A bare 100,000. . (164k in the HHA, distorted by the spend on my Amex by the OH)

However, the earning rate as a Silver quickly restores the spend.

Is it really that much for LHR-IAD? I paid £41 for LHR-PEK which is much further and nothing at all for the return leg.

Accurate Smileys are also available on the panel to right when you reply to posts.

And F than C may be better in some people's perceptions, but it may depend on which airline you are citing.

I find CW indispensable from IAD-LHR but WT+ tolerable on the day flight the other way. Having said that, I've upgraded to CW once on the LHR-IAD route and been given an upgrade another time--and both times appreciated the extra comfort CW provides.

The lesson is hestitation costs - UuA availability has now gone. But then I was happy with WTP to start with, so no great loss.
