That has swung it for me - I just received the email. I will be picking up £300 equivalent of US$ to trigger this. With the Amex MR points and LHR Worldpoints that will be awarded the deal is a good one.

No - from the evidence that Raffles on his blog, headforpoints, has so far reported (but this was purchasing directly from the Amex currency website, without the /britishairways extension). But treating it is a purchase seems to be an unusual situation as normally you would expect it to be charged as a cash advance.

Would buying currency also count towards the £3k (in 3 months) minimum spend to get the 40k Avios bonus on the Amex Business Gold Card?

Should do, although no-one has tried it.

Very little risk on a small order and you could repeat with a large order later.

This is on the ACE website so open to all.

Interesting small print fact: 'also valid at Moneycorp'

This means that Gatwick customers can play.

Annoyingly I did a transaction last year so will need to get my wife to do this. That will go down well, as usual!

Do note that they are serious about the '40 days' thing, be prepared for wait. Don't forget your WorldPoints as well.

You MUSt MUST MUST preorder - the rates are very good if you do. And shocking if you don't.

Can you "see" qualifying spend towards the 40k Avios bonus in the Amex Business Gold account?

Can we have a volunteer to try this - maybe someone who lives a bit closer to LHR?

Couple of points.

1) It appears the bonus 1000 avios is not ruled out if you do a Sterling TC transaction. Although the T&C above does seem to exclude £TC, when i read the online T&C it doesn't mention it.

2) If you previously did a direct transaction on the amex website, you are still eligible, as you are only excluded if your transaction with ACe was an avios collecting one.

Their exchange rates look pretty bad. If you change £300 you get 340 euros. You can get 350 elsewhere. Depending on how much you value avios at, I think you might come out ahead by going for the better exchange rate.

it's marginally better than Marks, which is normally my yardstick (rightly or wrongly)
