Price difference on ba.com and expedia for flight from Paris

Hi,
I need to purchase a ticket for my partner from Paris to Syracuse NY and return to LHR. So it will be ORY/CDG to LHR to ORD to SYR, all same day, and return leg is SYR to ORD to LHR.
On BA.com, it give me €1,193, roughly £988. But on expedia the price is £776, same flight WT+ ticket. Anyone can think of why? Maybe the airport tax at LHR?
As a GCH, can I choose seat for him now? I will be travelling on the same days but from LHR to SYR instead of Paris.
I already had my ticket, can I put his ticket with same PNR so I can manage it on BA.com?
Ideally I would like to purchase the tickets from BA.com, but if the differences are correct, I would go for expedia instead.
Cheers, any feed backs are welcome.

Most likely different fare buckets...? Could be different fare conditions too, related to different fare buckets.

You can't "join" two separate PNRs, and since you have already booked, there's no way to add his ticket to your booking.

Maybe if you post the exact dates/flights we can check? By PM if you don't want it public.

If you are booking him onto the same flight from LHR as you then you could call the BA Gold line and ask for a TCP (to complete party) seat request for him to sit with you if you will both be travelling in the same cabin (WT+). He will not be put onto the same PNR but this should allow a seat allocation next to yours.

A piece of advice - buy the cheaper ticket from Expedia and don't even think of relying on the BA price promise - it pretty much never works.

I would tend to agree with that provided you're aware of any extra limitations with the ticket from Expedia (likely to be less flexible as it's probably a different fare class). If the fare classes are exactly the same then it's worth having a go with the price promise. I've had some success with Hilton on that one where they paid me the difference in cost and an additional $50 each time.

Happened to me before but when I went to book the cheaper ticket I got an apology screen saying the price had increased, up to the fare on ba.com

I presume that if you did this then you could still claim the Avios miles?

Yes. TPs and Avios and based on the fare class / cabin / status etc and isn't related to how the ticket was purchased (unlike some hotel programmes).

It is possible, though most unlikely, that the fare bucket is non-earning.

Is there anyway of telling which bucket an Expedia fare books into before committing ? I don't use Expedia except for the odd hotel deal.

Expedia may have a way of adding your BAEC number. Otherwise just call BA or do it at check-in.

All WT+ fares earn full WT+ Avios so I don't see how that could be an issue.

This has happened to me several times with 3rd party websites vs ba.com. Indeed it's that the third party has access to different fare buckets, probably because of where they are rather than where the itinerary is starting.

And you can easily add your BAEC number. The selling class is usually shown with the price after selecting the flights.

By the way, you can also earn Nectar points.

I've always found "Expedia special fares" rather lacking in detail. The fare's Ts&Cs are never available so you would have to err on the side of caution (but you're saving a lot of money). Have you checked the price via aa.com? That seems to cope better with complex itineraries than ba.com.

Having been through expedia for flights before and run into a couple of problems on one occasion, I'd probably try to avoid them....

Which are a joke. Last time I was offered "an amazing 400 Nectar bonus points" after booking a hotel which equals to what... £2??

You may find that the price on expedia has changed by the time you finalize the booking. This has happened to me several times!

It's most likely due to the different point of sale - this arises due to the different countries. The BA ticket by the sound of it is booking out of the France availability whilst the Expedia is booking out of UK. As a result, you are getting in a lower bucket in the UK whilst in France a higher one.

Hard to tell unless you give dates and flights. There are fares for your itinerary on matrix for £756 on a sample date in Feb with a London POS, so should be available on BA too.
