LHR T5 F lounge over-crowding

I was at T5 F lounge this morning at around 8am and my goodness, it was rather crowded. Or rather, it felt very crowded. It became little less crowded shortly after, but it still felt very busy and rather 'high density'.

I am currently more often there at 5am (blissfully quiet!) or later in the day so I am no longer used to seeing it at around 8am.

Is it always like that at around 8am?

I know it is Gold lounge and not really a First lounge so I know not to expect too much premium feel to the place, but I wish it were a bit lower density and less crowded at the busiest times, if it's always like this at around 8am.

What are your thoughts?

I'm often there around 7:30 to 8:00 and it does seem to be very busy at these times. Also long queues at SlowTrack.

I normally turn right when going into the Flounge as it seems to be quieter that end - probably because the breakfast area seems to be the main attraction at this time.

Was also busy at 3.30 on Monday afternoon, but seemingly there were a few delays due to snow that hadn't fallen at Heathrow. As pointed out previously, the area to the right (and right again) is usually quiet as a lot of people don't seem to venture down to the champagne bar area.

Much as we'd probably all love to sit in an almost empty lounge ... just for comparison, have you been in the *A Senator lounge at ZRH recently? Now I'd rate that "busy"...

OTOH, I was in the *A Senator lounge (non-Schengen) at MUC just before Christmas and it was almost completely empty. Having said that, it was 5am so maybe 5am is the way to go!

I think it is the same in the afternoon. Currently at the F lounge and it is more or less the same as when I was here around 8am last week.

I think 'high density' is an accurate description. I was at Galleries Club in T5B about a year ago - it was definitely less crowded than this.

The champagne bar area or the terrace - those are my 'to go' area.

Interestingly, the Slow Track was very fast. In fact the whole security was very quiet this morning. Because of that, I was particularly surprised to see that the lounge was so busy.

Just curious, what percentage of all the seats actually had bums on them to make it feel thant crowded (as opposed to seats with luggage, laptops, coats etc on them) ?

I wasn't really paying much attention to it, but I am guessing that there were many pair seat arrangements that were occupied by one.

The long table near the breakfast area was fully occupied most of the time I was there, with round and square tables nearby also all occupied (mostly with solo travellers).

There were also people wandering around looking for somewhere to sit with their breakfast too.

The lounge clearly needs a lot more solo seating that are suitable for eating and working - no shared tables between two (it makes it awkward), just one seat one table system.

Mondays seems to be the worst day in FLounge, around 8 am to 11 am, and again early afternoons sometimes, especially Thursdays. Saturdays can be very quiet.

I am assuming it is a temporary blip while the BMI status matches and last EuroCheats get normalised. CCR does not see to have the same peaks.

The champagne bar area is always quiet, but I'm not supposed to say that here.

My thoughts - unnecessary repetition.

How long until the BMI lot and the Europeans fail to requalify?

Final year for the EuroCheats, November is it? For BMI some cardholders were given an extra year at Gold, so while many will also be gone by the end of this year, there will still be some next year.

I guess we will see a few extra Emeralds from Malaysia and Qatar in due course.

I haven't check it out around 8am recently, but I find that the distribution of passengers around the liunge is not good...they tend to occupy the refectory area and the seating ahead and on the left as you enter. The area to the right is much less used and even fewer double back round to the toilets and use the area where the customer service desk is located and close to the workstations. i.e. the design doesn't really help get a good distribution unless you know the lounge well.

I'm surprised it took well into 8/9 replies to this post for people to blame the bmi 'leeches' and whatnot. I'll happily be in the Flounge till 2015, so I'm sorry if you have to deal with me taking up your precious space.
