Hi all a very quick question regarding the lounge situation at JNB airport.
Are there separate F and J lounges? Or is it just one complex shared by both F & J. I had a look at the Lounge Database and it lists two lounges. But last time I flew F from JNB-LHR i'm pretty sure there was just the one lounge (though I was travelling on the seasonal 'daylight' flight.

Its pretty much identical to the J lounge next door. The only difference is a slightly better range of food, and a single bottle of champagne. The Flounge it isn't !

+1
It's an OKish space to wait for your plane but don't allow any extra time for enjoying the facilities!
I have no idea about the Club lounge, which I have never been into, but the First side is small, often overcrowded and not really worth much more than a shower and a quick drink. Don't get your hopes up; and if you want something decent to eat don't rely on the lounge or the plane (the food ex-JNB is, in my experience, pretty ghastly).
Just not on a par with the T5 Flounge, which I think you mean.
We all know what she/he meant. Have you been? If you had, then I am sure it would have featured in one of your reports with comments comparing it unfavourably to other lounges with which you may be familiar (or not).
There is one lounge, divided into two (F and J) sections. The (extremely) limited food offering in the JNB F lounge always makes me wonder if there's any food served at all in the J lounge behind the wall

If there is, they must scoop it up and re-heat it onboard. That's the only way I can account for the slop that's been dished out ex-JNB.

Well it may be a single bottle but as soon as it's empty, a new one is presented I know, yesterday I emptied one bottle myself

The Club lounge used to open in the morning for the BA (Comair operated) regional flights to destinations outside South Africa. The F lounge was kept closed until 4pm. They would have used the Club lounge for any BA LHR daytime flights too.
The regional flights now use a different lounge and the BA (long haul) lounges do not open until 4pm, when both F and J lounges open.
As others have said, the F lounge is not great for food or drink. It is however furnished in the galleries style. From my perspective, I don't have an issue with the food as I know I'll be eating shortly on the plane and CW or F food is pretty good. As long as there is Champagne and a few decent spirits I'm happy.
Oh and by the way, you can get Champagne in the Club lounge - you just have to ask.
One final thing - before being too critical of the JNB lounges, give the CPT lounge a go!
