Provided the AA agent knows what they are doing, you will not need to collect them until MAN. Just remember that you need to show your bag tags to a BA agent when you get to JFK.

Thanks for your replies
But can you clarify - Where will I find a BA agent and why do I need to show them the bag tags ?
Bags are only loaded to the aircraft if the electronic list of boarded passengers and their bags is in the computer system. Sole bag tag is not enough for bags to be loaded hence need to show your tag to BA staff to ensure they're travelling with you.

When I fly this route:
KOA - LAX AA
LAX - LHR BA
LHR - OSL BA
Bags have always been loaded to each flight without me having to tell a BA agent. When I'm checking in from KOA, I tell the AA agent to send it all the way and it always works.

It doesn't differ from airport to airport. In most cases bags are in airlines' systems already. It does not hurt to contact staff as it reduces the chance of bag being misplaced.

Iv done several trips similar to this and never had to show baggage tags to anyone once checked in.
Previous one through JFK was DCA-JFK (AA) and JFK-LHR. Bags arrived at LHR no problem at all.
Honeymoon last year we did BNE-SYD (QF) then SYD-SIN (BA, F) connecting to SIN-LHR (BA CW)
Bags arrived at T3 LHR no problem at all, and to be fair this was the one i was concerned about as the QF agent didnt exactly inspire confidence !!!!!

There's no need to show your bag tags to anyone once they're checked . AA interlines to BA, BA will show the receipt of the bags from AA on the manifest and will match them to you when your BP scans as you board.
There may be a few stations, I'm not aware of any, where the bag/pax check is done manually or the system isn't BA's, but certainly none on this route.

BA is the only airline who has ever asked me for the tags hence why I mentioned it to the OP. I have had to show them (I was actively asked for them) at SEA, ORD, MIA and MAD in recent memory. A colleague of mine had his bags offloaded a couple of years ago at LHR by BA because he had not shown his inbound tags from AA to them. What the process is behind the scenes, I do not know. I am only repeating what BA staff have told me on several occasions.
