status no longer carries over to other pax?

Hey, guys.

I booked a ticket for a friend of mine using my (gold) account last week, and he was denied the special treatment. (He even called me to complain about it, but I digress.)

Has there been some sort of policy change?

I always thought the status was attached to the individual flying and not whoever booked the flight. Was it ever not thus?

That's exactly what I thought but wanted to know what was denied before saying anything.

If you are talking about the card benefits that your friend gets, you would have to fly with him/her on the same day, and even same flight for some of the treatment to be enjoyed

I too am a little confused as to what was expected and denied...

I am under the same impression that it is the person, not the ticket which attracts the FF benefits...

Please do tell us what your friend (and it seems yourself) were expecting?

There has been no change in policy. Status benefits only apply to the card holder him/herself when travelling and their travel companion (where appropriate).

Status is attached to the traveller, not the booker, and this has been the way for as long as I remember.

To make it complicate: He may use some of the perks when he is traveling with you (Lounge Access, Fast Track, Seat Reservation if in one booking).

And, I suppose, baggage allowance if on the same booking.

I do hope the OP comes back with clarification,

Maybe I shouldn't be but I'm surprised that a veteran Flyertalker not to mention a BAEC Gold card holder would have assumed that his friend would get all the benefits of Gold.

I know of no other FFP that does this.

If I'm not mistaken, I've booked for my wife, travelling alone, and she had seat selection as a Blue due to me making the booking.

Seat selected during booking, or in her MMB some time afterwards?
