last week, I was flying on BA11 LHR-SIN in Y. In the final few minutes before pushing off, the senior flight attendant in Y came to my seat and said they recognised both my status (Gold) and title (Dr,) but there was no room in any other cabin for me. However, they would give me the food from "upfront". Also when they were doing the drinks, they gave me two each time. I found the proactive apology particularly strange, as i was on a Y ticket (fully flexible).

Have experienced that a few times from really motivated CSDs when I'm in Y or Y+.
Only been moved forward a couple of times once in CE and once to WT+ as I recall, but better food and drinks have come back to me most of the time, or a row protected for me to sleep in, or the seat next to me kept empty
It is always most appreciated, but at the same time I am also happy to sit in the seat I have paid for.

Yes- part of me wondered was there thus an expectation the Golds in Y get moved forward? I always work on assumption with BA that it only happens as OpUps
People demand recognition of their Gold when sat in Traveller... And, when it is done, it is deemed to be strange... I give up...
As a note on that... I pretty much always give people double drinks when I am doing the bar round... Just a force of habit I suppose...

On my Y-trip JFK-LHR I felt really recognized, crew chatted with me and also "protected" an empty row for me to sleep in It didn't feel strange, it was much appreciated but I certainly don't expect any better treatment when in Y.
I find it strange that I almost always have to ask for a second Diet Coke yet quite often people around me are given two bottles of wine/spirits & mixers. What's that about?

I sometimes have to ask for a second mini-Diet Coke ...
Exactly... Those mini-cans are 150ml, less than half a regular can... Which I think is stingy.
If people order a spirit and a mixer, I always ask if they want one or two, and/or two mixers if they are only having one spirit etc... I also never mix any drinks like that when working in club, I don't know how people like to drink their G&t or V&T or Moscow Mule, or V&O etc...

Totally inappropriate way of recognising a gold cardholder travelling in W/T and can only lead to disappointment when travelling in WT in the future.
Does seem strange to say I would have moved you if the cabin wasn't full. The offer of enhanced food is wrong as well in my opinion as it makes fellow passengers start to wonder just what's going on.

I agree with this, unless it is done very discreetly. The recognition is good though.
I'm curious because although I don't expect any kind of recognition, I've never had at-seat recognition when travelling in WT/WT+ and I must have done a dozen long haul sectors last year.
I did get a personal introduction from the CSD on one flight but that was in CW.
But people here talk about getting 'recognised' as standard and I don't really know what they mean. Are they talking about simply being greeted at the door by name? Or is there something more?
